Our prayers and thoughts are with all of those in Larry's path. Be safe.

G'Maen all. Sure could use one of those neck warmers right now. Hope all those in Larry's path make it through safely ♥♥♥

cathy, sa. . . read the postings from yesterday. CONGRATULATIONS! I knew you could do it.

Jen, Townsville, When are you intending moving to NT?

I sit here unable to sleep as we face the very real threat of Cyclone (hurricane for those in the US) Larry hitting our town or slightly North of us in the next 7 - 9 hours. The army has begun evacuating people from our beaches with huge storm surges predicted and major flooding. The rain has More...

3:43, about my usual. Alot of posts already. Glad to see everyone enjoying the site.

Thoughts to those is 'Larry's' path...
Stay safe.

are interested, go to www.bom.gov.au and click on QLD on the map. The winds are expected to be 280 km/hour in our town, so things could get very grim. It's almost on a par with Hurricane Katrina as far as wind strength goes, but cyclones are unpredictable. It could weaken, intensify or change direction. My fingers are crossed as there's nothing else that I can do.

but she's old?! sooo old...the clamy hand of death is upon her

God speed and good luck to those facing 'Larry'.

Yes I been watching the bom site. You know it is just over a year since Ingrid went over the Cape York Peninsular and then doubled back over it and went on a rampage (up to Category 5) along the Arnhem coast before heading out to sea and down in to WA. All the best for tonight. Keep safe.

If you look at the cyclone map, you'll also see Normanton (Baz), Port Douglas (PDPete), Townsville (Jen) and Mackay (for those who remember Di).
 |  |
The Townsville radar showing rainfall actually also shows exactly where the eye of the storm is at the moment

fi, I certainly remember Ingrid. Our local news is saying that at this stage, the cyclone is expected to hit Innisfail, Tully or Ingham. Tully is not on the map, but is halfway between the other two.

Although I don't live on the coast, in 2004 Orlando was hit by 3 cyclones in just about 6 weeks. The second and third passed over the barrier island my folks live on in a large caravan style home so they evacuate to my home which is 50 miles (80km) inland.
 |  |
They spent almost 2/3 of September and 1/2 of October at my place, not because of much damage but because the power and water were unavailable and the temps were in the 80s (25C and more) and they're in their 80s.

I'll be thinking good thoughts for you FNQ (at least they called it that in the 70s).

Are you above the flood line? They reckon that the tides will be massive.
 |  |
THAT is a great picture!
 |  |
FNQ is now known as TNQ Tropical North Queensland - better for the tourist image I believe. I think that I learned that on this site- possibly enlightened by Baz.

From another oldie, this is how clammy is spelt

Howdy ya'll! Special thoughts for those in Cyclone Larry's path. 'Hunker down' (a phrase that Floridians will know). It seems like it was just weeks ago that we were waiting on Hurricane Wilma. Days sure pass quickly. Enjoy them all!
 |  |
We won't be affected by the tidal surge (2 metres above the year's highest tide) but I do live in a flood area with a major flood meaning water in the bottom storey of our house. That's a 'funny' thought. Depending on how destructive the winds are, first to go would be the 2nd storey of our house, More...

My prayers are with you who are near the path of the cyclone. We were sure slammed last year in the south, that's why I think I am staying in gool old Michigan. Even though we have a few tornadoes and a couple of big snow storms in a year, our weather is not too bad, however every winter I will More...

Did you hear about the two blondes who froze to death in a drive-in movie?

They went to see 'Closed for the Winter'.
 |  |
A blonde went to an eye doctor to have her eyes checked for glasses. The doctor directed her to read various letters with the left eye while covering the right eye.

The blonde was so mixed up on which eye was which that the eye doctor, in disgust, took a paper lunch bag with a hole to see More...
 |  |

'Look,' said the doctor, 'there's no need to get emotional about getting glasses'.

'I know,' agreed the blonde, 'But I kind of had my heart set on wire frames'.

A young man wanted to get his beautiful blonde wife, Susie, something nice for their first wedding anniversary. He decided to buy her a cell phone. He showed her the phone and explained to her all of its features.

Susie was excited to receive the gift and simply adored her new phone.

Susie replied, 'I just love it! It's so small and your voice is clear as a bell, but there's one thing I don't understand'.

'What's that, sweetie,' asked her husband.

'How did you know I was at Wal-Mart'?

I just checked out a map of the Herbert catchment area. It looks like you'll be seeing plenty of water. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

Which part of town are you in?
I'm down near Tupperware.

2am - Having gone slightly North, Larry is now heading west directly for Innisfail about 100km North of me, with Ingham expecting destructive/very destructive winds. Catching up on the weekend's archives, we have stored water (especially important for toilets!) and advised neighbours that we will More...

Susan, our thoughts and prayers are with you all in the path of this cyclone, will be watching and hoping for future postings, hope it will be in the next few days. God Bless
 |  |
Thanks fi, ap and psa for your thoughts, as well as all who have sent their best wishes to all of us under threat. I'm going to try to get some sleep now, as I hear the wind and rain strengthen. It's 2.43am, and I will let you all know how we are when I'm next able.
