Pusser is the term used to describe sailors or the navy, in particular Commonwealth navies. The term is a derivitave of the word 'purser'. The ships purser was responsible for looking after the general running of the ship and one of his tasks was to issue the rum.

You can google Pussers Rum for a more detailed version of the facts.

So this is what happens in the woods around mammoth....

While walking through the woods (California, where else?) a man came up to another man hugging a tree with his ear firmly against the tree. Seeing this he inquired, 'Just out of curiosity, what the heck are you doing?

'I'm More...

Ah, geez, HUGH ... that sure imperils the serenity and contentment here in the woods ... (and the naughty joke censor is gonna zap you again!)

But you were UNDER the sea when you were in the Navy ... I'll bet the sailors had some lovely nicknames for you guys ... :)

HUGH - Your post made me go hunt up our beautiful old ships's decanter of Bristish Navy Pusser's Rum (now empty!). Printed on it are some Royal Navy Traditional Toasts:
Monday: Our ships at sea.
Tuesday: Our men.
Wednesday: Ourselves (as no one is likely to concern themselves with our More...
 |  |
HUGH - that's naughty!!!!!!
I think, as an ex pusser, you have to come and dole out the rum! After all, you're on days off now, so there's no problem.
 |  |
Ah! Kathy - That Pussers Rum be good stuff!!!
 |  |
Kathy - don't know if you're interested but you can get a base/stand for your decanter made from recycled timber from HMS Victory. They are attractive but not cheap. Something you would want to keep forever,
 |  |
CP - You only get one tot each per day.

Good Maen all! GO VIKINGS!

Mamacita 2, I am sorry, forgive me, I forgot that you don't like it if you are not the center of attention. I will just sit back, keep my fingers still, and watch from the deck.

When Nelson was killed his body was placed in a barrel of rum to preserve it - but the sailors drank the rum and so it became known as 'Nelsons Blood'.

 |  |
Hugh - deal!
 |  |
Geez ... I leave for a few minutes and you guys pick on me ... sob!

Yes, HUGH, the Fitzgerald story is true. It was many years before advanced technology was able to find the wreck. The storms in the northern Great Lakes can rival those of the ocean.

Nearly Boarded
Nearly boarded and Cptn Willam
Comes to check my passport.
My papers ok, the word goes out
By messengers, birds on the wing
The word spreads through the ship
The pusses should guard the rum
For Tylan’s on the scene, by gum.

The welcome devil comes as More...
