Do I detect grumblings on here about my riddle??? Well has anyone else tried it? There have been cases of riddles being impossible to solve before, so this might be one of those!

How's your part of France, Fiona?
26/May/09 6:52 PM

I want to do your riddle Fiona. It looks real good. But - grumble grumble - my back is crumbling and distracting me from doing anything - especially anything resembling 'thought'.
26/May/09 6:55 PM
 |  |

I'll give it a try now Fiona and try to get back to you before changeover. Got to eat first though.

'thought' Rayray that must be where I am going wrong with these riddles - now where did I leave that 'thing' I used to think with?

Ah CynB what brain food are you having?
See I have even remember the name of the thinking machine, now to find it.

ok I've just had a look at the riddle and it IS impossible, given the lack of info! SORRY!!

HI Mo - it's still dull and damp here - supposed to get better from this afternoon - did you have the hailstones last night?
26/May/09 7:07 PM

here's the replacement riddle - answers to the mea culpa inbox please!
I have T at my start,
I have T at my end.
I have T in my middle,
And it comes through my bend.

What am I

but how I will laugh if Kathy spent hours on the riddle!!!

Fiona, we had hailstones last Friday Morning, while I was driving along with the squally winds, thunder, lightening and heavy rain..
It could have waited at least another 10 mins and I would have been home!!!

yes but it's winter with you Rolanda - it's normal - it's supposed to be summer here! well the grass is happy if nothing else!

Fiona.. too late with the replacement riddle..
already sent in the answer in your inbox.. spent hours on it too ( well maybe not that many as it was missing clues, so I winged it)

To respond to your post at the end of yesterday's comments, JEB, I don't think it was just the fact that some people thought that contradiction and dispute were 'abusive.' After all, where else can you make a political statement that is predicated on your belief that October comes before More...

not quite Winter yet Fiona.. we have had Summer till last week, Autumn came by with a vengeance !!!

No, we are living in a low cloud of permanent drizzle. Not heavy enough to water the garden or really need an umbrella but enough to keep the washing wet and ruin hair etc.

so...do you have any suggestions Ian? Or is it a lost cause?

Is that another puzzle cut and pasted from Braingle.com, Fiona?

that is taking the easy way out!

Ian, I stick with this site because I have actually met and made good friends here. Unfortunately several no longer post. This is a shame as I feel it leaves the site open to the mass posters who use the site as a chat room. They all have a right to do this but I must admit to turning off when I More...

The calendar is circular. So (this) June can come 'before' (this) October, and (last) October can 'become' before (this) June. I hope I am not regarded as a person who has 'muddied the site'. The reason why I don't post so often is because of severe back pains with a limited possible use of the More...

Did anyone even realize the sarcasm in posting exactly two hours after the last post? Or was that completely lost?

26/May/09 7:43 PM
 |  |

I don't think so, Rayray (with all due respect and great affection and admiration). 'This' October can come before 'that' June, but 'this' October can't come before 'this' June.

{If anyone wants to know what this is all about, site-google "Gordon Sinclair."}

26/May/09 7:47 PM

Oh Rayray you sound really down with that back pain. Unfortunately we can only sympathise, but know that a great many of us wish you well and a speedy improvement. You are one of the posters whose name I never 'skim' over your posts are always worth a read. Take care.

Rolanda: The trouble with hail-stones is that they have eyes. They snoop and stalk wherever you go. Then, as soon as you go outside they maliciously pounce.
Actually I believe there is a reason for this happening. The air pressure and humidity are affected by an imminent heavy shower. That More...

Ian, some do not understand the word 'sarcasm'
26/May/09 7:50 PM
 |  |

I think when the wit became sarcasm the site lost a lot of its fun. It's not difficult to be sarcastic, but it is a gift to be witty. I cite Col, who no longer posts, as she was spot on, very fast off the mark and very very funny. And the exchanges with her - and others of course - were some of the More...

Does the air pressure also make me always want to get deep breathes of fresh air immediately after a rain storm?
26/May/09 7:52 PM
 |  |

Thanks GM: One trouble with back pain is that the only thing worse is the pain of having listen to victims moaning about it (lol).
26/May/09 7:52 PM
 |  |

Is it simply a matter of replacing the word 'sarcasm' with the word 'irony?'

26/May/09 7:56 PM
 |  |

I must leave. The spasms are coming on.
26/May/09 7:56 PM
 |  |

We look forward to verse about sparcasms, Rayray.

26/May/09 7:58 PM
 |  |

not the same Ian - irony can be funny, sarcasm is never intended to make people laugh.
26/May/09 7:59 PM
 |  |

I think sarcasm has to have a specific, individual target, and has to be mean-spirited. If it's just a comment about general things, no matter how critical, it's more in the realm of satiric or ironic.

26/May/09 8:03 PM
 |  |

This may be one of those rare times when precision in language can (ironically) be an obstruction. The issue is not whether something is technically labeled 'sarcastic' or 'ironic,' but whether the comment itself is meant to hurt or not, to be nasty or to poke gentle fun. If either one is obvious and clear, the label is meaningless.

The heavy rain has arrived just as Steven was demolishing a lean-to garage. The dust he was covered in is now wet - not a happy chappy! His favourite lunch of Baked Beans on toast is called for!

GMo's comment says it all:

"This is a shame as I feel it leaves the site open to the mass posters who use the site as a chat room."

26/May/09 8:11 PM
 |  |

Agreed, Ian, but in the recent past there were several comments made about some postings and always aimed at the same person. These became obvious to me and others and shortly afterwards the recipient stopped posting on this site. (A great shame as they were up there with the birth of the site)I More...
