Interesting, Jiminoregon. I don't know much about Linfield, but I know where it is. McMinnville is a great town. Used to go to the Solstice Fests at Amity Vineyards. Always a good time.

I'm at the local state university. Most of my research has been on biochemical adaptations of marine organisms.

Jim, you are too humble. I think your students were blessed by having a great mentor.

I don't see as anyone from the USA has answered Sacky's question from yesterday. I thought it a very good question. He posted: 'I'm just wondering if the soldiers of the Civil War are all regarded as = in the celebration of your countries history, or is one side favoured over the other?'

Both Mr P and I thought there was still some residual North vs South angst when we visited the east coast of the US last year.

Sacky and/or Plum.... I think it depends on where you are in the US. I'm in a border state, and soldiers from both sides are honored here. Our local cemetery has seven Civil War veterans buried in it, and I put flags on their graves yesterday. I believe all seven were on the Union side (north) but I've never heard of anybody discriminating around here. All veterans are honored.

We only put up American flags, not Confederate flags. Confederate flags have too many negative connotations and have no business (in my opinion) being erected on American soil. There is no Confederate soil and shouldn't be. They lost.

CP, I love Korean BBQ, but have had bad experiences too... I miss the one we used to go to in Orange County. We even drove to that one when we lived in LA County.

I couldn't watch the video. My sound has just died. Actually I was watching a video, a big warning screen came up, my More...

To post #100 ...
Here is WNC, we do not call it the ''civil war'' .. rather, we call it '' the war between the states'', as no war is truly civil. That being said, both sides lost much, but all-in-all, the country is better for it. ttfn.

Hi All,
Interesting to read about the ''civil war'' in US so many years ago, and the resultant acceptance of veterans on both sides.
Now what of Syria ? Can we expect a similar result once that dreadful conflict is terminated ?

Southern Highlands Autumn Garden Festival
On a happier note; as a ''Friend'' of the local S/H Botanical Gardens group, I was involved in helping at a plant stall to raise funds.
There were 7 local gardens open to the public (at a small fee) - again to raise funds. I managed to visit 3 of them and have posted on my page a few photos of those three.

Spent the day at two cemeteries to lay flowers on my grandparents' and my sister's graves. Then to a funeral of a dear man to volunteered at my school for 2 decades after having been a teacher and a principal and was the father of one of the teachers at my school. Met many of my former students because all my students in 2nd-3rd grade became the 4th-5th grade students of the same teacher.

Hummm, there is a thought I had not had, but probably should. Do we have chimney sweepers? Does my chimney have a cover so birds and squirrels do not enter. It has been a very long time since we have had a fireplace and I only recall using it one time.

MIL turned her fire place into an electric one. I really like that, no mess and push a button to turn it off or on, or another button turns it up or down, too.
