Shiela - I'm so sorry to hear Tuxedo is not doing too well. I know how much she means to you, so I'm sending lots of virtual (((hugs))) ♥

Shiela - the cat we had prior to Twinky was a tuxedo cat named Chuckers. He was one of the most loving cats we ever had! There is a picture of him about half way down my photo gallery (right next to the picture of the man with a raccoon on his head).

Thanks, Jane. He doesn't want to eat and when he finally does, he throws up.

Our Tux has a white face and instead of the traditional pink nose, his is black. He is probably the smartest cat we've ever had. He keeps us on schedule ...even on the weekends. He can sneak up on your lap, lie down and act like he's been there the entire afternoon without you even realizing ...until you look down and wonder, "When did YOU arrive???"

Oops! Sorry I got Tuxedo's gender wrong! Our little boy's markings were almost completely symmetrical. He had a white chest with a black circle that we referred to as a medallion. He's been gone more than 4 years, and we still miss him.

Jane, you can join our BBQ here. Keith says he likes lamb chops and it will be on the 10th April here, the date of the full moon! You can come and read Ray's poem.

Rayray - was your prose inspired by Kathy's (Florida) youtube send? I don't know if anyone had your e-mail to get it to you, but here is the youtube link: http://www.youtube.com:80/watch?v=D2FX9rviEhw

June - Oh, how I wish I could! Poor Keith is going to have a devil of a time sticking to his diet while he's in Australia! Sounds like he is going to be wined and dined royally!!! (By the way, I LOVE Aussie lamb chops. I buy them at Costco everytime I shop there.)

Poor sheep merely being turned into objects of entertainment. I thought the artificial interference with the sheep rounding rather spoiled the display, but it is interesting.

Don't forget Earth Hour tonight, March 28! Turn all lights and appliances off from 8:30 to 9:30 PM (your local time)! Australia (being ahead of us) already did so.

Rayray - I'm afraid I haven't tried your tomato soup recipe yet, but I have gotten so far as to print it out and stick it on my refrigerator door as a reminder!

Watched Twilight yesterday. Maybe a teen movie, but beautifully filmed (I usually don't like the blue-grey light, but it was perfect for this movie) and the two young lovers produced more angst and sizzle than many of their older peers. A Romeo and Juliet story with a twist.

Wow, Jane. Read the info on Earth Hour! No problem dimming the light here. Actually in the residential area here we don't have much in terms of outdoor lights. The every other street lamps have been turned off already. We really didn't need them.

Jane... And miss half of the Michigan State women's NCAA Basketball Tournament game?
Could I turn everything off for a half hour before and a half hour after the game?
Or maybe choose a different time zone for this evening?

Many of our local restaurants (except the fast food type) plan to turn out their lights and serve dinner by candlelight from 8:30 to 9:30 pm! I'm assuming they won't be unplugging their refrigerators or stoves, however!!

Kathy - one year on vacation on the Outer Banks, I was taking a walk down the beach and passed a woman with a whole passel of puppies. Further along on my walk I passed many dogs, including a border collie, being walked by their owners. A half hour later or so, when I was heading back up the More...

Kathy! Good for you! I always turn my computer off at night, too, but there are actually business firms that leave all their computers on overnight. I think they should be fined for wasting energy.

Of course, I am the original skinflint. Our electric bill never runs more than $40 a month! (Except in the summer, of course, when we turn the AC on at night. Then our bill gets up to around $100.)

It takes us so long to boot up a computer in the morning and my husband needs it on fairly instantly because there is important weather and other info he needs to check before he heads out. Is there a way to make it automatically come up starting about 20 minutes before we need it without getting up 20 minutes early to turn it on?

Plum - Many years ago, I had what was called a "kitchen computer", a gizmo that you plugged your appliances into (such as a coffee maker) and then set a timer. That was before they had programmable coffee makers, of course. I don't know if they still make them since so many kitchen More...

Plum - I'm assuming you have a laptop since most desktops boot up instantly. Of course, that depends on the age of the computer. My old desktop took forever to warm up, whereas my new one starts immediately. Anyway, I hope that site I mentioned above has some useful info.

Now I'm off for another bike ride before it rains. (I'm saying that very optimistically. They've been predicting rain - which we need desperately - for days).

Hi All, Mary I don't know if our storm is coming your way or not. This is the same storm that was in western Oklahoma, Texas and southern Colorado for the last two days. Thanks for that tip, Ian. Rob has ordered me a new computer & monitor to replace my big bulky CRT one, which my daughter tells me is practically an antique! Hopefully, the brand new one will have that "hibernate" feature. I am not looking forward to the changeover. I'm old & stuck in my ways.

What is going on with the site? I had a heck of a time getting on this morning....usually I can't get to the computer until afternoon, but today is Saturday and I am free. I wanted to start the day with a puzzle to get the brain working.

I have both "sleep" and "hibernate" features on my computer which I use during the day when I'm not using it. However, I still shut down completely at night. Of course, as I mentioned, my computer comes on instantly, so there's no inconvenience. I'm puzzled, though. I thought More...
