Rayray - Sadly, what you say has a kernel of truth to it. No, we are not the world center of terrorism, but the US has greatly exacerbated the problem through its policies of corporate greed and exploitation of the oil-producing regions of the world. On another, slightly related subject, I find More...

I'll join Angie and put on an old classic, for both Keith and Dave, who seem to be doing a lot of roadwork this year. Enjoy Roger Miller singing "King of the Road."

Jane: I am glad you did not find my comment too provocative. Some people here believe that Amercians are all warmongers - but I don't think that is true myself. They just have unfortunate 'leadership' right now - although I am afraid that leadership has done serious long-term damage to your country's reputation - in my opinion.

ARL stands for Australian Rugby League and AFL stands for Australian Football League

Does the following apply to the ARL OR AFL?

7 have been arrested for fraud

19 have been accused of writing bad cheques

Rayray I agree with you - we judge a nation by its leadership and the current American leadership is not too hot, neither is our own for that matter. Now individuals, thats a different matter, people are people wherever the are...we all crave love and affection, a full belly and somewhere to sleep.

Odd that we seem to have the same statistics:

3 have done time for assault

14 have been arrested on drug-related charges

8 have been More...

Rayray - Frankly, I'm surprised there wasn't a bigger reaction to your comment! However, I think most of us Yanks realize we have made some stupendous errors which we hope to rectify. Unfortunately, we don't, in my opinion, have many viable options on the horizon with regard to presidential More...

The super rich and big business control it all. We fool ourselves if we think we have any say or that our vote counts for anything. Conveniently, that also means it's not our fault. Everything (including war) is done for the benefit of the super rich and big business.

One of the biggest players in "big business" in the United States is CalPERS, the pension fund for retired California public employees, including teachers. Their assets, for investment, total $157 Billion. General Motors, in contrast, has a market cap of a little under $22 billion.
