LADY LAKE, Fla. (AP) - At least 14 people were killed early Friday as thunderstorms and at least one tornado struck central Florida, flattening homes and a church, causing power outages and lifting a tractor trailer into the air, officials said.

Col,CP,rosemary,Rose,Rola, the rain is on its way!! It's arrived in Brisbane I see, so not much longer. We still haven't seen the sun since Monday, but better that than Glenn's tornado scare. Looking at the radar, I think Canberra is next.
Happy birthday to Stella's son, Ian!
Aileen and Stella, best wishes to your mums!

I feel very lucky that we were spared the worst of the storms. I think that there are a lot of others who could use your prayers today...

Glenn, is it true that you get very little warning that you are in the direct path of a tornado?

Our thoughts and prayers are with those in Florida who have been affected by the storms. I am particularly concerned about our sudoku friends from this site.

Apologies Stella. Happy 12th birthday Ian!

GLENN: We're glad that you are safe, but doesn't our friend, Kim, or Tractor Girl, live in that county? If so, can someone who has her email check on her?

Glen, our prayers to everyone in Florida devasted by that storm. Glad you are safe. Thanks for everyones's birthday wishes to Ian. He will be thrilled to see them when he gets home from school. Thanks for the thoughts for my mom. She shattered her wrist and shoulder and it's a slow recovery More...

AILEEN: Prayers for your mom and her kneecap. My mom broke BOTH of them in a fall, and while they never hurt too much as they healed, she was in excrutiating pain because my son and husband cracked a couple of her ribs lugging her home! So, be careful!

Stay safe, Glenn, and anyone else in the path of extreme weather; and best to your mom, Aileen. As for me, you know I'll be on the ski slopes this weekend.

GRANNIEMO: While you may have two accounts, and all of your photos and comments are recorded on one of them, only one address shows up on the Member List, and it's the wrong one! Maybe Gath can help ...

I had heard that there had been a tornado in Florida, but I didn't hear that anyone had died. I am very sorry. These families will be in our prayers as well as the families that have suffered damages.

In response to the question about whether you can get notice if you're in the path of a tornado -- we have lots of experience with that in Texas. The TV stations give Tornado Warnings and Watches, so you can be aware that conditions are ripe for one. Many communities have sirens that sound when the winds reach a certain velocity.

Happy birthday Ian!!, Aileen--hoping all go wel with your Mom and she gets rid of the pain, etc in her knee.
Has anybody heard from Kathy from Valrico, FL? My prayers are with the rest of you all in Florida. At least you can track all the darn hurricanes you are beset with. Have a peaceful and calm weekend everyone.

Albany Anne - I usually get to within touching distance of you but from the far side! 3.15 today but that could be because we took delivery of a new all-singing-all-dancing TV and it's got a mind of its own. My old head's spinning. I was never meant for this century.

Best wishes for your Mom, Aileen/California.
Thoughts and prayers to those affected by the tornado in Florida. I am guessing that with the tornadoes coming during the night, there is not much time between warning and arrival. Also, Glenn, correct me if I'm wrong, but there probably aren't many basements(storm cellars)in Florida, so no place for shelter. Mother Nature can be so vicious!

I was right. The princesses arrived at 9AM (early for me) They have gone back to Grandma's, but the plans are to go to lunch and shopping (looking for me) in an hour, so better get hopping. Hubby called in sick today to do Boy Scout business
