Anne, I'm an Aussie and I'm proud to whinge with you!

Lisa from Northern Ontario,I've never seen Canadian Football.I'm just starting to get into football. The half time show should be good.
 |  |
Judith/Michigan: essentially the game is the same except in the CFL they only have three downs, not four so they typically throw the ball more that in the NFL. I personally think the long throw makes the game more exciting than hand-off after hand-off.
 |  |

Hello Mary - LOL, I wasn't actually whingeing, I was just commenting to someone. I guess some people take any comment as a whinge if it doesn't conform to their viewpoint.

What is Canadian football? How different is it to Gridiron? I've seen a little of gridiron and I really dont like it. The players dont seem to have any stamina. They make a long run up to the end they have to cross (and dont even have to bend and put the ball down) and then come off because why? More...
 |  |
Mary and Anne, I agree
 |  |
Lisa from Northern Ontario,Do they start back up in the summer?I'll have to watch a game.
 |  |

I forgot the helmets...can't forget the helmets.
Give me Rugby League or Aussie Rules anyday. Yes, I said Aussie Rules. Surprising for me to say but after watching these guys run and run and run and tackle and only wearing a pair of shorts and a tank shirt? Now that's fitness and skill.
Bring on the footy season!!!!!! I'm a bit cricketed out.
 |  |

Deb, my daughter saw a game in Canada and she said they each have 2 teams-an offensive and a defensive so if the ball changes direction -that team comes off and the other goes on!!!
 |  |

Are you serious, Mary???? OMG!!!!!!
 |  |
Deb/Brisbane - Canadian football is gridiron football with the biggest difference being that which I mentioned in my comment above.

I am no football expert, I just like to watch. I admit I know nothing of rugby so I can't begin to guess how the two compare.

In our game the More...

Chalkboard, our local paper isn't on the net, but you can go to townsvillebulletin.news.com.au (or Google Townsville Bulletin) which is our closest city paper. Today's edition has a spectacular picture of the Burdekin Falls Dam overflowing. If you click where it tells you for wet weather photos, More...

For all you Americans it is 38 degrees celcius in melbourne. Which is very very hot.
 |  |
Judith/Michigan - yes, they start up again in the summer...June I think. I am a Hamilton Ti-Cats fan but I can admit they have not really been much of a contender in the past few years.

The CFL only has nine teams, so picking a favourite is MUCH easier!
 |  |

Deb-imagine that practice in Aussie Rules!!!
 |  |

Just reading all about the rain up your way Susan,
think we need to build a canal to funnel all this excess water into the inland river systems so that we can harvest some of this water for other parts of the country.
surely in this day and age we have the capacity to carry out such engineering feats.

Kerrie, Cattle Creek is only about 5 km South of Ingham, and further downstream runs right in front of my mother's house. We used to swim in that creek as kids, or ride our home made boats during floods, and walk through floodwater to get to the school bus. There were no crocs then, but I wouldn't More...
 |  |

When it comes to competition here, size doesn't matter. haha..lol.....
We don't keep our little players off the field in case they get hurt. They are out there copping the tackles and making them.
Gridiron mustn't be a very fast moving game then. If everytime the other team gets the ball More...
 |  |

Well, we have swtiched to Foxtel and the halftime entertainment just finished. Was that Prince? Thought I should watch a little of this 'game' and will then again comment...
 |  |
We do rosemary, and one was planned in WA, but apparently the cost made it prohibitive. The cost to properties and crops here from flooding added to the costs of stock and crops lost to drought south and inland should make it worthwhile, and it would solve all our problems! A pipeline would be a More...

Lisa from Northern Ontario,My husband said he like's the Calgary stampede.

Carol,It is so cold here,your skin hurt's!!!

Afternoon everyone, C Greg, ap and Anne great jokes, we laugh about old age but it'll happen to all of us, so what better to laugh than cry.
We had a great day on the houseboat yesterday even though it was very hot we kept chasing the shade each time the boat turned. Ok on to the next puzzle.
 |  |
At the risk of being a whinger, another thing that really annoys me is people who take stupid risks. One lady drove her car through a flooded road with a Road Closed sign. (Road Closed means not even the highest and heaviest trucks can get through). Yep, needed rescuing. Another man rode a flooded More...
 |  |
Deb from Brisbane,Yes, that was Prince in the half time show.
 |  |

Mary....I was thinking more of the Rugby League teams having an offensive and a defensive team. Can you imagine? Every time the other team got the ball..say...after 6 tackles and there was a changeover...then off went that team and on came the other.
It could never be applied to Aussie Rules as the whole team has to be both because of the changes constantly in play.
 |  |

Susan
I agree, the one off cost should be easily recoverable over years of repairing properties, roads, bridges, houses etc. and the cost of droughts to other areas. It would also open up some other areas and make them viable with the availability of water supply.
Its not whingeing Susan, some people should be protected from their own stupidity!
 |  |

Well, am trying to stick with it. It's a very slow game isn't it? Lots of talking.....
 |  |
Deb/Brisbane - televised games always lack the energy that one would find at a live game.

I suspect I may be a fair weather football fan - the thought of sitting there soaking wet doesn't really seem like much fun. Sort of when our sailing races turn ugly and we get wet. Yuck!

It's to bad it's raining for the whole Super bowl.Miami must be sick of the bad weather
 |  |

Two nuns are ordered to paint a room in the convent, and the last instruction given by the Mother Superior is that they must not get even a drop of paint on their habits.
After conferring about this for a while, the two nuns decide to lock the door of the room, strip off their habits, and paint More...

Anne From AlbanyThat was funny!!
 |  |
Anne,
Be careful.
 |  |

Do they always play the SuperBowl in Miami?
 |  |
Mamacita,

Set that Deb straight. How dare her.
 |  |
Deb,No, they pick a different city every year.Last Year it was in Detroit,Michigan.
 |  |
How sweet Super bowl Sunday very very cold
Got roped into having a Tupperware party today Soooooooooooooo glad it is over
 |  |

Obviously you have to grow up with this game to be so passionate about it.
I find it to be quite boring but our games here are very fast.
I have only been stirring you guys (hope you know)and I hope whichever team you are barracking (rooting) for wins.
 |  |

Whoops, it must be old age creeping in.

I was so busy deleting old e'mails that I forgot I had submitted the above joke and wondered what the comments were for. LOL
thanks Judith and Ed

Ed.....an angry face for me???? I'm sorry....
