Good Maen to all! Still raining, so we have a wet Labour Day here. Planning to have a nice day anyway, and hop everyone else does as well!

Sad looking puppy. Appropriate for the last day of the last long weekend of summer.

How come no one complains about the plethora of dog pictures, but there are howls of protest over the kitties? Moratoriums have been called on cats...but nary a word about the dogs. That smacks of discrimination. Perhaps this site is going to the dogs?

Sorry to hear about Steve Irwin.
Such a shame to leave small children behind.
 |  |
There are more pet cats than dogs,
but dog owners will drag them anywhere.

I love both.

Let's just not go to rodents.
No rats, mice, squirrels, etc.
Occassional hamsters are okay.

I posted my regrets about the tragic death of Steve Irvin on last page of 9/4. I knew who HE was, of course, but I do not know who Colin Thiele was. Google says an Australian author, but not much more about him. Could someone please tell us what he wrote about, etc. Thanks.
 |  |
Well Furry face, you sound like the pitbull on the picture. But I just want to do the puzzle and don't look at the animal! Have a nice day
 |  |
Oops, I just didn't scroll down far enough to see the rest of the info on Thiele. Wikipedia already had his date of death posted! At least he had 85 years on this earth whereas poor Steve Irwin was only 44. So very sorry for the world's loss. He was such a great champion for animals & educating people about them.

2:14 Just arrived home from a Delltones Concert, the first one of their concerts I've been to. They still know how to thrash out all those old songs and they put on an excellent show.

to fido,

cats don't drool, fool

dogs drool

and I've seen pictures of cats chasing bears,

so I warn you not to mess with a cat

Kathy - Colin Thiele was an Australian writer - he wrote Children's books such as Storm Boy and Fire in the Stone. His books were based in rural Australia. And I think every Australian student was read to, or had to read , one of his books!

Welcome to KATHY FROM OHIO whom I found on yesterday's posts. Now we have Kathy's from Ohio & FL, Ed's from CA & FL, & Judy's from SD & Bendigo!! Only one MAMACITA, though! And well, okay, Baz & beehive are unique in their own ways, too

Thanks MEL! I got more info from you than Googling! Do you think his books would be interesting to American children, like my grandchildren?? How are you? Did you get to watch any of Agassi's matches? How's YOUR tennis coming?

3:43....fastest time for me yet....its amazing how one's concintration improves when everyone else is sleeping! good Maen

Y'all have answered my about-to-be-asked question re Colin Thiele. The name sounded familiar but I couldn't place it. Now, I remember 'Storm Boy' -- a great story, given to me by a New Zealander (school teacher) neighbour some years ago. Once came across a filmed version of it on late night TV. Did More...

So sad about Steve Irwin. A real loss, not only to his family.

A picture of Steve Irwin would pay a nice tribute. May God bless

Labour Day in Queensland is the first Monday in May, probably to space out the public holidays.
Steve Irwin will be sadly missed by many. It's astounding to see how well known he is overseas. Today is QCS day for finishing high school students in Queensland, such as my son, who are looking to go to uni next year. This big set of tests will help determine their overall results for uni entry.
 |  |
KATHY from Valrico: Storm Boy is a great story. I think it would be a good one to share with your grandchildren. It's available on Amazon.com, but be careful--there's another book on Amazon by that title by a different author.

About all the comments that there are too many dog/cat photos on here, I remember reading somewhere that something like 20 - 30 million Americans celebrate their dogs'/cats' birthdays with parties etc. every year. Has anyone ever had/been invited to one?
 |  |
 |  |
Hi SUSAN! Sounds like the QCS is similar to the U.S. SAT & ACT testing. Lots of pressure for the students to do well on it. Good luck to your son. I forgot to ask the other day what your husband grows? You mentioned a short season this year, but I wasn't sure for what??

Kathy - one for you

A Home Welcoming

I know you old salts will remember the old days of wooden ships and iron men, & signalmen. The aircraft carrier U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln was finally inching up to the pier at Pearl Harbor when the Captain of the ship noticed a sailor on the flight More...

FREDSTER FROM FLORIDA - Now there's another unique name! Have you posted before? If not, welcome. Where in FL do you live?
 |  |
HUGH: Cute story but wondering why it is directed at Kathy! Do you know something we don't?? LOL

Good morning world! R.I.P. to two great people who have left great legacies to the world~Colin Thiele and Steve Irwin. I had just watched a documentary last night about reptiles with Steve, only to learn of his untimely death. Condolences to both families.
 |  |
HUGH - LOL LOL LOL That's hilarious! Would you believe I welcomed my husband's ship coming in to Mayport, FL after a six month deployment back in 1973 by parking our new yellow Pontiac Safari station wagon way out on the jetty where he could spot it easily. My two little daughters (ages More...

My vote is to keep the animal pictures coming, all kinds, and the scenery, and the sunsets, and...It's all good.

Hi all, I've been away too long! Real busy. Anything new going on? I know this won't help the dog v. cat discussion, but consider, in some cultures dogs are eaten.

I now this has been posted before, but it seems appropriate once again:
