You know those moments as a parent were you are trying to draw the line between 'let kids be kids' and 'being safe'? My boys are currently using some creative choices as sleds. So far I've seen them use a tricycle and an inverted plastic slide.

Happy Tuesday day off!
Kathy/FL--We have had Androids since Hubby was not happy with his iPhone. Last year we got LG Optimus G Pro, which is a smartphone with a bigger display (for our older eyes) It is marketed as a 'phablet'--phone tablet. The AT&T lady kindly helped me set up my email, etc.

Kathy - I have an android - it is really acting squirelly these days, and I am hoping it makes it until May 1 when I can get a new phone.
Like some others, my next phone will depend in part on what is the cheapest option. I would like an iphone, but am not going to pay much for that privilege!

June, we change the battery in the smoke detector every January 1st. This came about because of ''inconsiderate beeping''. Yes, ALWAYS in the middle of the night. They must be programmed that way. The battery change is just part of the New Year's Day rituals, along with tree take down and football.

That's great, Serena! All kids should be able to do that. I remember using a laundry basket and even a drawer from an old dresser that was in the basement. My mom was very understanding, bless her. She once suggested an ironing board. She was a kid at heart!

Good mAen, everyone! Interesting discussion on smart phones today. I have a basic flip TracFone. It takes pictures (though I don't use that feature), but it works just fine for my calls and texting. Best part is it costs me less than $200 a year, and there are no monthly fees. It would be nice to have all the features and apps of the new phones, but I don't want to pay for them!!!

Kathy! You didn't 'borrow' lunch trays from the dorm to slide on the snow like the rest of us at UM? LOL! Just after storms, there were no trays left to use for food ... but they all came back eventually!

Good morning all. I have an android that is so unreliable that I can't wait for the contract to run out in September. I'm like Shosho with all my other gizmos being Apple. That's going to be my next phone! Hubby has a basic, but he needs a touch screen for texting.

Kathy, like you I have a Samsung S3. To add to the mix I had a Windows phone before the Samsung. It was a Nokia phone and I really liked the Windows set-up but it kept conking out on me and I wasn't receiving texts and I couldn't ring anyone from it. In the 6-7 months I had it, it spent 6-7 weeks More...

An Irish priest was transferred to a parish in Texas. Father O'Malley rose from his bed one morning on a fine spring day. He walked to his bedroom window to get a deep breath of the beautiful day outside. He then noticed there was a jackass lying dead in the middle of his front lawn. He promptly More...

Re: phones - Though my plan includes texts and pictures, as well as data, those functions are useless, to me.

Kathy - I own a mobile (cell) phone but it is rarely used. It is an outdated model (no camera on my old clunker) which I only use for emergency calls when I need to be contactable. Our home phone is more than adequate most of the time. I use the mobile phone whenever I work alone on my sister's More...

In general, I have a hard time paying for features I don't need or want. When we moved in I wanted a side by side fridge but not a water/ice dispenser. I couldn't find one without the dispenser so we got a normal fridge. Our cordless house phone is the only model I can find that doesn't have a caller ID display. I don't have the service so I don't need the display.

For what its worth; I another who uses a mobile for little other than emergencies and my preferred means of communication - SMS. I consider that this method is more respectful of another persons time and they can respond at their convenience. It works very well AND only costs 12c per message
(not the main reason I use it though!)

FWIW, my cell is a Samsung Jitterbug, which I got at Barbara's insistence. For $15 (plus taxes) a month, I get 50 minutes. As I recall, the most I've ever used was less than 30 minutes.

Good morning all. Sorry to disappoint a few, but I have returned intact, (although a few fingers had a lucky escape), from my diving trip with the great white sharks.

I have decided that diving with great white sharks makes me profoundly happy. They are such amazing creatures.

Well... I was going to talk about a typical conversation with B. on my cell, but somehow it does not come close to an encounter with a great white shark.
