I have recently been there. It IS beautiful and very intriguing.
The old Buddhist temple was buried in volcanic ash for centuries, and when it was uncovered it was really well preserved because it had been protected from the elements by the ash.

I remember a few years ago the last red fox (non native) in my home area (quite unusual for a city) thought it hilarious to run aside me 5AM around the nature preserve. Unnerving at first but I started looking forward to seeing him/her again. It had a den in the rocks near the water hole. It's been years since I last saw him/her.
