Many ways to skin this cat. At some point at the end of simple elimination look at 8's in Bb2 and determine that a6 must be 9. Simple from there on.

Hiden triples,or pairs of four, five, discovered lead to swift solution

23:52 but with 2 guesses again. I think I'm getting impatient: TM gave me a new technique the other day (having to do with determining a third number that is correct whichever of a pair of doubles is chosen, and filling that number in), but I don't see how to use it (or finding such a number) More...

don't see how to use that technique without paper.

Also, re the two Mike's question about uniqueness of the solution, gb: I asked the same question a while back, but did not understand what you were saying until today. Thanks for your re-iteration.

Hey gb, thanks for the explanation. I can see and agree with your rationale, especailly given that there is a higher approach possible. I was simply under the impression that a multi-solution Sudoku was invalid and forbidden. A quality sudoku site doesn't intentionally offer them. I never More...

14:18 .. And quite happy with that!
 |  |
29:33 But even then I had to have one guess with about 53 filled. Just couldn't find the remaining hidden triples and no X wings evident.

Completed it again with the more general solution. It does somehow feel better, especailly since discovering the previous method is considered less than proper ;0)

45:15 - with the help of gb's solution.. you'd think if this was the same as the last few days I'd get quicker.

fc=forbidden chain. It has taken me a while to get this sorted out. the Bruno's Sudoku Proofs page (http://brunogreco.free.fr/bazar/sudoku/) is helpful --- after a while! It has taken me about a week to finally make sense of his help and numbering system.

great pic!
re: sudoku handheld discussion, and wouldn't it be nice if when there is only one possibility left it was automatically converted to a fill, but not sure how you set up the possibilities if this is the case? maybe a tickbox change would be good. (are you listening Gath?)

This might be the same type as previous two days, but is surely easier. No FC needed. By eliminating along rows as you go when entering the possibilities, it all fell straight out. did it three times to make sure.

15:58. Aah, first go on tough. think I did ok.

Hi everyone! really pleased tonight, hubby must be good luck charm, he was right next to me while I was doing this one and every number just fell into place, never finished this quick before! sorry no timer but I knew I was going well

11.45 okay as very busy day trying to catch up with my sudoku. have to do two from yesterday yet.
 |  |
12:04 and counting very fast. It is nice when they come out for you without straining what is left of the 'grey matter'

I shot through again with no FCs- I suppose I must have made an accidental guess again but I don't think so....who knows? It's fun anyway so lets not get too serious about it! Time for a stiff coffee and bed!

getting the hang of the online system -- first completion at 15:14, and perfectly happy with it. Still can't find what FC stands for. In this puzzle, I was puzzled by all the analysis. If you include elimination of doubles as part of 'easy', this whole puzzle was easy from start to finish, and required no logic chains longer than two steps.
