hi to all

I think 'Name Day' is another way of say 'Christening'....Naming Day - Christening Day

2.47 not too shabby

I haven't read far enough to see too many similarities, but it seems to be set in the same kind of time. I wonder if Wolf Brother is for youngsters - the main character, a young boy, watches his father die from a bear attack in the first chapter.

I have just finished reading 'The Physician' by Noah Gordon. This story is set in 1000AD and is about a man who wants desperately to study medicine but has to pretend to be jewish to go to the best medical school in the world - a Muslim hospital in Persia. The author is very clear that it is a More...

p.s. The Physician was written about 20 years ago as far as I can tell so is not influenced by current political issues.

does aussie have a elk or deer population?
 |  |
Thank you for your concern. My rottie is 8 years old, and has hip dysplasia, thus the low rumble to let me know 'hey that hurts', never a nip. Hair laying perfectly flat thus showing he was not angry. Loves to play with anyone, and everyone that comes to house, whether he knows them, or not. Only behavioral problem is he eats and sleeps too much.
 |  |
dysplasia!!! Sorry!

I'll put both The Physician and Wolf Brother on my shopping list. A couple of years ago I read an interesting book set in 800 AD called 'Pope Joan' about a woman who assumes her brother's identity and enters a monastery where she becomes a scholar and eventually ascends to the papacy. This was More...

No, we don't have deer or elk in the wild..They are in captivity like zoos and wildlife reserves. Of course, rudolph and his friends visit here every christmas eve.....lol...
 |  |
Best book and the most recent one I've read was 'The Da Vinci Code'....fascinating especially for somebody who was brought up very religously.
 |  |
maybe I'm wrong about rudolph..he was/is a reindeer. Are deer and reindeer the same?
 |  |
No, not the same. Reindeer only come out in inclement weather.
 |  |
Deb -- I read The Da Vinci Code. It was an interesting and exciting read. And, deer and reindeer are not the same thing.
 |  |
Very good site. I'm in love.
 |  |
Deer are smaller than reindeer. Reindeer are very very closely related to elk. Some believe they are the same species...probably different subspecies though.
 |  |
Other household members have finally emerged and I was able to check the book info - the author of Wolf Brother is actually Michelle Paver - whoops!! I will look for 'Pope Joan'. I read a news story very recently about a possible female pope. I think it was on the ABC news website. It showed pictures of sculptures of a 'pope' with female features etc.
 |  |
I have heard 'The Da Vinci Code' discussed a lot and have been thinking about reading it just so I know what everyone is talking about!!

Too many books - not enough time!!

Hey thanks for answering....I've submitted comments on here before and never been acknowledged. Thanks for taking the time out to do so...

Ici un petit présent du temps ordinaire pour vous! For two days a eurasian jay has come near to the house, where there are feeding dishes. Out of the ordinary! My garden with old trees is in the middle of the town! What a beautiful bird! the blue on wings and its black-striped head! Bonsoir :)
 |  |
Oops..you posted when I did..thanks to you too. Yes, it is a good book. It's one of those that you just hate putting it down to go to do something like...WORK...LOL.....I think if you haven't had a religous background then it's a good and interesting book. If you have had a religous upbringing, it's fascinating!

Deer & reindeer - hmmm. Which is larger depends on the deer; reindeer aren't huge (just extraordinarily strong and capable of flight! lol)
 |  |
There are only seven species of marine turtles in the world, and six of these are found in Australian waters.

....and all the little pigs are lined up on the runway ready for take-off!!!!

I get a kick of you people who's highlight of the
day is being first to post a comment.

'who's' means 'who is'.
The correct word is 'whose'.

Dan Brown, author of The Da Vinci Code, also wrote some other interesting books. Angels and Demons is along similar lines of The Da Vinci Code. Digital Fortress and Deception Point aren't quite as clever but are, nevertheless, good thrillers.

Deb, it is weird about getting responses. Sometimes no one responds, but it doesn't mean that no one cares!!!
 |  |
Would that be Jupiter Jim who takes people on beach walks to see turtle eggs/nests/and so on?

Deb, I often don't post because I know the people I want to respond to are from 2 pages ago and probably long gone for the day.
 |  |
I usually post under another name and will keep a look out for you in future. Next time I say Hi!, I'll introduce myself properly.

4:16 Definitely a deer!
 |  |
Hi Jennifer! Whereabouts in Tampa do you live?
 |  |
Fess up, Paul, are you really 62 or is someone playing a joke on you?
 |  |
2:11 My fastest time since I started way back in Sep. Woo Hoo!!!

Majestic animal, the elk,in this pose. We dont have anything native like these in Aust

True Lynne, but no-one who has seen a full grown red kangaroo in top flight could be anything but amazed.

For those people who found the pics of white people wearing black face paint offensive........Black American basketball star Dennis Rodman is currently appearing on British television wearing white face paint.....How ironic !
 |  |
3.40 Godd morning everyone. I hope Gath got to sleep in today.
 |  |
Agree, Have seen plenty of red roos in outback & around Bourke & Cobar, & SW Qld, they are just as great in their own way. Shame their numbers (red) have diminished over the years. Dont see many reds any more mostly greys.
