TM says that he has never had twins until this year. I guess I'm his lucky charm! Ha! I don't want to do it, but those never ending dishes are calling me.

An oldie, but worth repeating for you golfers:
It was a beautiful, sunny Sunday afternoon while Moses, Jesus, and another guy were out playing golf. On the first tee-box, Moses pulls out his driver and blisters a shot up the right side of the fairway, rolling fast towards a water hazard. Moses More...

freemartin n. A sterile or otherwise sexually imperfect female calf born as the twin of a bull calf.
Okay, I googled freemartin b/c I didn't know what that was. But Sarah Beth or Heidi, could you explain further for me - how do you know already the female is sterile if she's just been More...

Kathy, calves & earthquakes? I thought you were talking about boys and girls or was it girls and boys!?

Kathy, I am not sure of the answer to that. The information I have found says that the bull calf's testosterone renders the female sterile. If that is the case, why aren't females born in litters of dogs and cats sterile? Or humans, for that matter?

With regard to a forecast about quakes.
The Arctic ice is fast melting from Global Warming. Its February extent this year was the lowest for 30 years. Less ice at the poles will relieve pressure on tectonic plates and boundaries there and encourage rift quakes. In turn that will More...

Breaking News
I have just now looked at the earthquake list. The most recent quake (M5.0) has been in the Kuril Islands (immediately south of Kamchatka, USSR). Within a day or two that might well exacerbate the situation off the East Coast of Japan.

was a nice day today - not a teaser day - but I feel the start of a warming trend -- with the time change - the recycler truck came earlier - got me out of bed - in my PJ and out to the curb just in time to get rid of my paper recycling ! with my declutter program going well, I had 5 bins of paper/cans to go.

of course, in my rush to get to the curb, I did fall down the stairs -- this is my 2nd fall - I'm more purple - of course, this bruise will not be easily seen -- I hope -- I guess, I need to do some de-stressing in my life in addition to de-cluttering my house

It's up to me to explain freemartins.
They ONLY happen in cattle. Apparently, the bull testosterone is so strong in the set of twins that the female twin is rendered not only sterile, but her reproductive tract generally does not develop... sometimes it's completely missing. A vet or trained More...

When going to college late in life (around 30), I took one geology class, because my husband said it made the trip to Yellowstone more interesting by understanding what he was seeing. When Mt. Mazama (aka: Crater Lake) blew, the dust cloud covered Oklahoma. During the dust storms of the 1930's enough dust was blown away that it uncovered the dust from that eruption. On 395 among the geologic wonders is a volcanic caldera, where like Yellowstone the magma is close to the More...

The jail in Bridgeport (on 395) is where Sean Penn did his time also my nephew. There is a road going over to Nevada (I believe to Hawthorne), it is on the backside of the cynder cones and is like a roller coaster, You end up at the infamous Mustang Ranch. It has been taken over by the Federal Government - and is probably the only operating brothel in Nevada that no longer makes money.

For those interested - the reason they call the area around the edge of the Pacific the "Ring of Fire" is because of the relationship of Earthquakes to Volcanos. The edge of the plate moves under another plate (earthquake) and gets swallowed up in the Earth's mantel and is spit out in Volcanic eruptions. There is a cause and effect relationship in the "Ring of Fire".

USGS have revised the big earthquake from M8.9 to M9.0.
This now conforms to the Japanese assessment of the magnitude of the quake.

Yes Heidi. There are now only 5 recorded earthquakes since 1900 with magnitude M9.0 or greater, being: ---
Chili, 1960, M9.5
Alaska, 1964, M9.2
Sumatra, 2004, M9.1
Kamchatka, 1952 & Japan, 2011; both M9.0
