Good Maen friends!
Off for a week with my dad...he's doing so much better. I'm sure he'll be glad when he can be on his own and we are out of his hair!

Hello, Shosho!

Vici - good to remember the importance of a parent's independence. It sometimes gets in the way, but as much independence as they can have is important element in their lives. They are of a strong generation.
My mom will be 96 this year and is still living independently in the house she was More...

Hey Shiela! Going to leave now to have brekky with my nieces! Should be fun these two girls could talk a mile a minute! They're so delightful to listen to!

But Shiela, they can be stubborn cusses! Mine is independent, too. But he's legally blind and running rampant all over town. Ok the town is small and there is a strong friend network but . . .

My brothers and I check on him on a daily basis. Baby bro sees him 6 mornings a week and little bro on Saturdays. I see him 4 times a week with the caregiver seeing him the other 3. So he's covered. But still you call before you drop in on him unexpectedly. He may not be home!

Shosho - That independent stubborn steak is what keeps them going! Mine is legally blind, too. She can see somewhat, but had to give up driving at age 91. Still has her car, but grandchildren use it.

Enjoy your parents while you can! My dad died way too young (61), and my mom passed away 11 years ago at 90. I still miss them both!

Oops! It's been 13 years since Mom died. Can't believe it's been that long.

Eve ... If you are into wine tasting, there are some great new wineries out in the Applegate. Seems there are one or two new ones every year out here. This is going to be the next Napa Valley. Take North Applegate Rd just before you get into Murphy and go out to Missouri Flat. Google Applegate Wineries .... enjoy.

Sounds great, Dave. I may have to don my Whale Cocktail Suit and join Eve and her mother.

I know, Shiela. My nieces were lamenting the passing of time on Facebook yesterday. They were bemoaning the fact that it's been more than 20 years since they were in high school. Yikes! Surely I can't have nieces that are THAT old!!!

I found a pair of wine glasses at a yard sale recently....really!!! They are rose colored sunglasses shaped like wine glasses! This sounds like the appropriate occasion!
(Since I was the only one who even mentioned the sunglasses to the person selling them, she GAVE them to me!)

My father died 22 years ago but was no great loss. I am still so sad that my wonderful F-I-L died under very tragic circumstances just 6 years ago. The M-I-L might as well have died that day as she has given up and now requires round the clock nursing care in a secure unit. My mum is still going strong and is off on another overseas jaunt next week.

Tricia - My father died 18 years ago and my mother traveled extensively after he was gone. (Lets just say he didn't like to travel.)
My FIL was also a fantastic person. And my MIL, too, for that matter. Lucky me. They are both gone now (with-in 6 months of each other) and I feel so bad that they More...

Sheila My #1 son has his grandfathers names as his middle names, very old fashioned names which the F-I-L begged us not to do, and many of our friends begged us not to be so cruel, but my son is amazingly proud to bear his grandfathers names and also terribly sad that his beloved Grandfather died the day after his 16th birthday.

The answer to yesterday's puzzle: Hand me down

As everyone seems to be viewing "The People of Wal-Mart" and having varying degrees of stomach trouble as a result, I have called upon the always professional Wal-Mart pharmacist, I. B Pillpusher to aid winners, Mr. Cee, Heidi, Captain J, Shannon, HalT, and CP in their recovery.
