Win tagged me so here goes:
1. I'm passionate about golf (at my age its the only thing I can get worked up about).
2. I love living in the Land of Smiles.
3. I now know that life is for living!.
4. I have made some good friends by using this site.
5. I have a very warped sense of humour.

I'll tag my namesakes - Ian from Boston and Ian from Sydney

Happy Tuesday day off!
Celebrating my mom's 87th birthday today with lunch and running errands.

Angie: Congratulations to your daughter winning the game with the RBI! I am a great spectator of sports, but sadly uncoordinated...

Good morning all! Strange weather of late. Some places got a couple of feet of hail yesterday! Cloudy and gloomy at the moment, which reflects my mood. Waiting to hear that D#1 made it safely to Istanbul! Have a great day!

I have a question - when did it become "the cool thing" to celebrate a victory by destroying property of others? Demonstrations of Joy, should be singing, dancing - how many of you when happy, go around with a bat hitting cars, throwing molotov cocktails.....?

to your Mom, from Maryland, Aileen
to your daughter, Angie!

Actually, the females CAN be rather yellow when young. There was a pair in the backyard a few days ago and both were orange and black. The female just not as vivid.

You talkin' to me, Fiona?

Orange is not my color.

Look like goldfinches to me ...

why do you yanks - and the aussies come to that - all have back yards??? It conjures up awful images for us Brits of great big lorries parked there! Don't you have gardens?? And if you do, why aren't they called gardens? That's my moan for today - I'll be back later with the riddle!
17/Jun/09 12:54 AM
 |  |
Only one moan from the lovely Fiona today? Shouldn't we consider ourselves lucky?
17/Jun/09 12:57 AM

Fiona - in the States, "garden" refers to a formally-planted area of flowers or veggies. "Yard" refers to the overall space surrounding a house. Not all back yards (or front yards, for that matter) have gardens!! Until this spring, my side yard was just a side yard - now it is a side yard that contains a newly-planted garden!!
17/Jun/09 1:00 AM
 |  |

Fiona.... I have a backyard, a front yard, 2 side yards and several gardens. Not sure what a lorrie is...?

Thanks Aileen and Kathy!
17/Jun/09 1:01 AM
 |  |

Well, Riddle-fiend, it's the YARD (that grassy thing) in BACK of the house. WE don't park in a yard, we park in a parking lot, or a driveway, or a garage. Of course we have gardens! They are in our BACK YARDS! Geesh! Trying to educate SOME people!!
17/Jun/09 1:01 AM
 |  |
And, Fiona, in some neighborhoods in the US, people park "great big lorries" in their FRONT yards!

Jane, you are just TOO nice! She needs a smack upside the head once in awhile.

Very pretty GOLDFINCH plate. Who owns it?
17/Jun/09 1:06 AM
 |  |
I agree, Kathy! I have already asked Heidi to deliver a smack to Fiona when she sees her, and tell her it's from me. I'm thinking about asking that favor of everyone who will attend Fionafest! I don't know how Fiona will take it, but I will feel a lot better!

Perhaps we should call it the back lawn? Or does that really imply just the grass?
17/Jun/09 1:07 AM
 |  |

That would be a truck, Angie.
17/Jun/09 1:07 AM
 |  |

Oh, good idea, Judy! Sorta like "Bop a Mole"
