1:26. Good morning all. It's hard to see the number on the ship in that photo, but if it was number 04 it's HMAS Darwin, the Sydney was 03. It's the same class (FFG) I served on for 18 months or so in the early 80s–I was on the Adelaide (01). 22/Dec/19 6:39 AM |  |
 Merry Christmas to all! 22/Dec/19 8:59 AM |  |
Let's all go visit new member Gideon:The mean temperature in Enugu State in the hottest month of February is about 87.16 °F (30.64 °C), while the lowest temperatures occur in the month of November, reaching 60.54 °F (15.86 °C). 22/Dec/19 9:19 AM |  |
I have branched out in food colors. Yesterday I ate spinach! It was getting a bit old in the fridge, so I ate some raw in a wrap and cooked what looked a bit old. Along with the spinach and some avocado in the tortilla, were a sliced mushroom, hummus, and chicken, so there are four beige things right there. But I did eat some cooked carrots alongside, so kept up with my orange consumption. 22/Dec/19 9:30 AM |  |
Don't worry about the colour of your food Sarah, just have a go at Arachnid's puzzle. I know you helped him with it, but there must be something you can do with it. It is a very good puzzle, and I see Kathy is having a try, so Arachnid's work will not be in vain. 22/Dec/19 10:51 AM |  |
It has cooled off a bit today, the predicted top is in the high 20's, after a few days in the low 40's. But there are still hundreds of fires burning across the country, and the firies are becoming exhausted, although they are getting help from some other countries, the Canadians for example. 22/Dec/19 10:56 AM |  |
While quite a few buildings have been lost, and quite a few of them are houses, but the firies (most of whom are volunteers) have done a wonderful job of saving homes. A number of people have died not as many as one would expect, but even 1 is too many. 22/Dec/19 11:00 AM |  |
Back burning is the main way the firies try to control the fires, but with lots of assistance from water bombers and water tankers with hoses. The guys doing this close up control are the real heroes as the fires are so fierce and the hot dry winds move the fire fronts so quickly. 22/Dec/19 11:06 AM |  |
Beer 21: Bären Weisse is a German Hefeweizen style beer brewed by Privatbrauerei H. Egerer in Pilsting-Grossköllnbach, Germany. 22/Dec/19 11:08 AM |  |
One good outcome has been the strength of feeling about Australia's failure to develop and implement policies to reduce climate change. It was enough to get our Prime minister to abandon his holiday in Hawaii and fly home, and for his Deputy to concede that there is such a thing as global warming. 22/Dec/19 11:10 AM |  |
Hi Hal, I don't have access to any exotic beers such as you have been enjoying, but it is 33 and just have a Hahn Light, but you have whatever you like, I'm shouting. 22/Dec/19 11:13 AM |  |
Thanks for the quiz promotion Wombat. Don't forget your answers didn't come through though I know you've completed. 22/Dec/19 11:31 AM |  |
Shocking vision of the fires over your way. Tragic that a couple of firies should die responding to calls for help. Disastrous to lose ones home. And for some reason even more so at this time of the year. I really don't know about global warming as I've not studied it enough but I do know that mankind is doing its very best to leave nothing for the future 22/Dec/19 11:34 AM |  |
Just a tad early here for a drink Wombat. Does Guinness go well with porridge?Hal is going well with his German adventures Finish just in time for Christmas 22/Dec/19 11:41 AM |  |
Off to the local markets this morning. I expect we will come home with an armful of tat which will take pride of place for one week and then join the articles for sale pile. 22/Dec/19 11:43 AM |  |
 OK, that's a CP so now I'm off 22/Dec/19 11:44 AM |  |
Dunno about Guinness in your porridge, Arachnid but I can vouch for whiskey. Had it in one of the B&B's we stayed in in Ireland, very tasty. Had a smile on my face all day! 22/Dec/19 11:52 AM |  |
