My thoughts on boy vs. girl. When substitute teaching, as a rule I have found the girls to be much more well behaved. In my own home, I raised 2 boys (now 18 & 19) and found them much easier to understand and deal with than my 15 year old girl. She totally confuses and frustrates me on a daily basis!

rosemary From wangaratta, I'd say you've summed it up nicely!
 |  |
Rose, I think you are probably right. Also, look at our 'conversation'. I really don't care WHY these things go on - I just know what I like and deal with best. That is probably a bit of an overstatement (I do care about reasons for behavior), but I don't think about the reasons for behavior much unless I have to.
Just another shallow, reactionary male, huh? lol

Hi! all.

Shikia saw the neurosurgeon yesterday. The specialist had to cancel and will now see her at the end of August. The prognosis is not to good and is a bit confusing to me. The tumor cannot be removed because of where it is and chemotherapy and radiation treatment are also out of More...
 |  |
Oh, HUGH, that is sure a mixed bag of good news and bad. Will you tell your son and daughter-in-law that there are a bunch of caring people praying for Shikia and them? We will all have faith that the doctors are doing the very best that they can, and that Shikia will fight this tumor and More...

MAMACITA: I had never heard that expression before, and it just cracked me up! The visual is imprinted in my brain forever. Might have to try it ... LOL

ROSEMARY: You're right about the language of young girls. When I taught junior high, all of the kids wrote notes to each other. I More...

Baz, Amazing comment on the penal code of Alberta Canada 1989! Wherever did you find that?

From my experience as a parent and as a teacher, JAMIE's revelation that he prefers girls in his classes, and vice versa, reveals some very significant things about him! When girls like a male teacher, two things are true: (1) He is kind, funny, and fatherly, and (2) he has to be kind of cute!! I'm not far off, am I, Jamie?
 |  |
Judy, thank you! I think you are fairly right on the first part, but I am probably WAY past the time of being cute.
Of course that statement might be more true if you are into gray beards. lol
 |  |
Hugh, we are certainly thinking about and praying for your entire family. It isn't much consolation, but sometimes it seems that is all there is.
Thanks for keeping us posted - that in itself has to be tough.
 |  |
Hugh' Prayers and love are flying your way. I can only echo Judy's words, tough things have a way of becoming manageable by kids. When they are given the facts, they handle it far better that adults in many cases. Hang in there!!!
 |  |
HUGH - So sorry that the doctor couldn't give you better news, but please keep in mind that doctors do not know all, only God does. There have been many instances where drs. have been wrong & patients have made miraculous recoveries despite grim outlooks. Keep the faith. There are SO MANY who are praying for Shikia & sending her our love from afar.
 |  |
This was too easy.. I didnt do the time thing, but waayyyyy too easy!
 |  |
Oh Jamie, the bearded type huh... Oh yea, Judy...You just know the girls found him mysterious, and even suave.....what do you think??? Judy usually pegs you guys pretty well.! Girls always know when they are appreciated for any reason too, Quiet, smiling, industrious, etc......
 |  |
Hugh, Wishing the best for your grand daughter. Shunts can be very effective and over the long term too. Please make the doctors explain everything until you understand. They will if you persist and you will rest easier and not feel helpless when you understand.
 |  |
Ooh, I am blushing~
 |  |
JAMIE - do you have any ancestors from Scotland??
MAMACITA - the book I ordered by Michael Leunig is 'When I Talk to You: A Cartoonist Talks to God'. It should be here in 5-7 days. I will let you know if that prayer Loza sent is in the book.

TJ from CLEVELAND, my hometown - if you are still reading comments, Welcome! Sorry I never got around to greeting you the other day.
 |  |
Yes, MAMACITA ... I'm thinking Sean Connery (but maybe with some hair on top, too), or maybe Mel Gibson lately, or Don Quixote (but a wee bit smarter) ... What do YOU think??
 |  |
MARY FROM LI, NY - I neglected to reply to you, too, re: your travel plans for Paris. The best thing to do before a trip is read everything you can find about the place(s) you are going. My husband & I travel a lot & do lots of homework before we leave. After checking out the shelves at your More...

Yes, my grandfather was a full-blooded Scotsman - a McIntosh. But Judy, you couldn't be much farther off. I am too short, too fat (unfortunately), but I do have hair. Actually, think more Richard Dreyfuss.
Thanks for the smart.
By the way, Michael Leunig sounds interesting - I missed the original 'conversation', but did some Googling this evening.
 |  |
Yes, Hadn't thought about the new look of Mel Gibson, ohhhh, The Passion thing 'He's sooooo sensitive and understanding...'knows what we need even when we don't....lol, or at least what we won't get!!! Get your minds right...I'm thinking grades...lol. Kathy: Thanks, I'll be looking forward to the response.
 |  |
Hugh, my thoughts also with you and Shakia, and her family. Kids have amazing adaptability, so hang in there!!
 |  |
Yes, burning wood might seem warm and bucolic, but wood smoke is about as bad as it gets. You're better off smoking cigarettes. The smoke from wood stoves kills more people in Africa than BOTH AIDS and malaria combined. I would like to get it banned in my town.
 |  |
Hugh: Barb and I will be praying for Shikia. You keep your spirits up. All of us will be looking for good news.
 |  |
Kathy is getting in the act with the 'Outlander type'. Note the question in the above comment....I'm not seeing that Jamie, but maybe Collum prior to his accident? Hmmmm, perhaps...
 |  |
So now I have to join the Outlander book club?
 |  |
Geez, MICHAEL, you sure know how to spoil a romantic evening! OK, can the wine by the fire scenario ... Can you tell us what YOU substitute when you want to initiate an evening of romance?
 |  |
Hugh From Canberra; My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
 |  |
JAMIE, I thought you already indicated you would be interested in joining us for our discussion! KEITH will probably be there, so you guys can keep other company and provide a male viewpoint!

Where's GLENN these days?? We miss your wit and wisdom!

Eden: I must have inspired Elias. Or else he was giving his opinion. It's always nice to hear from you.
