I have a glass top desk, actually a fancy small dining table for six with a small set of drawers and a printer book case below. Anyway the sun shines from another room and glows on the wall below my desk and is the brightest part of my office. An interesting view now that I have cleaned my desktop!

Gives tangible meaning to 'bright, shining clean', Shosho!

As in wine corks?
Should be more of these trees, Chris, since natural corks seem to be getting replaced by plastic.

I was saddened seeing my first plastic cork. There's something not right about that. Then came screw caps on mid-range wine. Sigh.

Yep ... might as well buy the wine-in-a-box!

Hello every one .

I did a little reading up on cork alternatives for wine bottles and found that in most cases the objections come from the consumers, not the wine experts. Seems in most cases an alternative is equal or even preferable to the natural cork, but consumers equate real corks with wine quality and become end-user "snobs."

Even some of the pricier wines are coming with screw tops now ... since cork is porous, it allows air to get into the bottle, whereas the cap lets no air in. At least so says a vintner we know. Heck, I drank the stuff--it tasted great.

Now that you think of it... Plastic won't dry out if you don't store the wine on its side!

I have some sangria in the frigde as we speak - just wanted a little taste about a month ago and that's all I found -- I should have just gone out and ordered a glass. I get these cravings at times.

Okay, it's in a box with a sprout to pour it - belly up to the fridge

oh, just go for it mare

I guess that there is at least one other benefit to a plastic cork ... sometimes it is nigh onto impossible to squeeze it back into the bottle ... so ya gotta drink the whole thing!

So why do they sell all those decorative stoppers, Judy?

Aw, Shiela ...

Yes, I did. thanks.

everyone!
How true, Judy! You will NEVER find a half full/empty bottle of wine in my fridge. I always insist it "doesn't keep"! No one ever argues with me....

Pretend you never heard that!
06/Aug/09 1:00 AM

I don't need no stinkin' stoppers!

Having a timing problem here!

Never heard about decorative corks, Judy!
Not "never heard of wine not keeping"!

Happy Wednesday day off!

Just learning about after dinner wines/spirits. Pal highly recommended Moscato. We liked it!
Then had late harvest wine. Another good idea! <--- that's me after a little too much imbibing!

When we were in the wine importing business, we tried (unsuccessfully) to get one of our wineries to switch to plastic after one of the shipments arrived ruined because of leaky corks. The artificial corks really are better, but I don't think I will ever accept screw-tops on good wine!
06/Aug/09 1:23 AM

Aileen - Moscato is one of our favorites. Some of the ice wines are also delicious dessert wines.

One word...
Brunello

Awe, heck! I can't drink wine any more, anyway!
(Warning: DO NOT take Prilosec for a long time and then expect to be able to drink wine afterwards! I get indigestion with even little wine.)
So, (not liking beer) I go straight for the hard stuff, now!

Yea, well ... maybe I am a "snob" or conservative, resisting change, and maybe plastic, screw on and boxed wine all do a better job, but I don't care. There's something nostalgic about a real cork.
06/Aug/09 1:56 AM

Heck to me wine is wine! Although I am a snob and prefer wine from Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, and Santa . . . hick. . . oh what the heck!

There were 2 correct answers to yesterday's puzzle.

What expression is this?
100S549
A3100F
4E621T00
28Y2167

If you look closely, you will see the word SAFETY in the block of NUMBERS. Therefore, 'Safety in numbers' is the answer!
to Greg and CynB!
