Those ARE purple Tulips... I have some in my garden behind my goldfish pond.
This is a well cared for flower bed. It would brighten anybody's day.

I have just noticed the time of Heidi's post nearly 5hrs ago a long time for here. pretty tulips.

There are both tulips (yellow) & ranunculi (purple). I recognise the pretty blue ones but can't remember what it's called!!!

Sorry Heidi I didn't see your comment before I posted mine! So I've just done the puzzle & looked closely at it. Some of the purple ones are tulips, but I think the one in the middle looks more like a ranunculus & there seem to be some ranunculi leaves amidst the tulip leaves!

So, we're both right!

One key to unlock this puzzle is to concentrate attacks on bc2, whittling down candidates until you can crack the strong pair {12} in c2.

After sotir's step 2 can't UP81, only UP36. Need at least one more chain, for example :
(4)c7=(4-7)e7=(7)a7 - (7=8)a9 => c7<>8, UP81
or other
(5=2)g6 - (2)g2=(2-5)h2=(5)h8 => g8<>5, UP81

thought the step 3 was not necessary,so I took it off. Your two solutions for step 3 are excellent.
