Hey ho Terry and Mary - i had to google JG - she's one of those actresses that flies under the radar until they do something so good then all of a sudden everyone goes " oh...her..." when you name the films she's been in, a bit like Frances McDormand...

now that i'm firing on all More...

Time for a movie night, Billy. If "Who ARE those guys?" isn't in their lexicon, then they're only half educated.

I think I missed The Visitor, in spite of its receiving rave reviews here in the US and making a note to see it.

Francis McDormand under the radar? I think not! Who can forget, "So, that would be your pahtner in the wood chippah?" from Fargo. Two great McDormand characters are in Almost Famous and Laurel Canyon.

a few years ago my son was in his teenage-completely-non-communicating phase and wanted me to tell him the name of a movie we had all seen and liked. After much gentle coaxing he came out with 'a Canadian bank robbery'. Eventally through sheer genius I came up with the correct answer,Fargo! He could More...

I would never have made the connection, Mary, though I can totally relate to those lovely teenager years. I'm just on my way out, now, as well. I maintain Nature made infants so adorable so we would bond enough we'd let them survive those later years.

Yes Terry, adorable they were, and then it hit me after pouring $$$$$'s into private schools/ ballet/music/netball/gym/ and kilometres/petrol/time it took to get to the said places...the investment is just too high! so that is why mine have survived, that and the fact someone will have to do up my More...

That's a good way to look at it, Billy, in terms of the investment. My husband and I, as we struggled through the "middle" years, sniping about whose turn it was to drive somewhere, or sit through the music lesson, realized single parenthood was a good enough reason not to get divorced. More...

Mary, just rewatched Dog Park. An insipid little movie but JG stole every scene she was in which, luckily, were quite a few.

Saw a movie!!! In a theater!!! With no kids!!!

Went to American Carol (Kevin P. Farley, Kelsey Grammer, Trace Adkins, Leslie Nielsen, and a bunch of others that I don't remember) this past weekend.

I thought it was hilarious. Very right-wing and made fun of Michael Moore. Main More...

The next movie I see in the theater will be Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. Most people with small kids will remember the first movie and it's catchy tune "I like to move it, move it". The kids can't wait. As the first one ranks high on my list of cartoon movies that I actually enjoy to watch over and over, I am looking forward to it to!

Whoo hoo Angie....congrats. Nothing wrong with good kid's movies...I sometimes feel like borrowing some kids so as not to feel embarrassed in the queue to see some of the better stuff on during the hols. One day I'll have grandkids and have to fight the other set for the right to take them to the flix.

Saw Welcome to the Sticks, a French comedy that pokes fun at stereotyping. The lead Kad Merad had an expressive 'sad clown' face that reminded me of the humour of Jacques Tati. It was funny and warm and provided an enjoyable way to spend an evening.

Wake up, flick folks. I'm watching the John Adams HBO series on DVD. My husband and I disagree with the NY Times about casting, and think the Emmies were justly deserved. The segments are slow at times, but so was nation building. There's a lot of great history packed into the drahmah.

Okay, how about telling the scariest stuff you've ever seen at the flix (other than the price!). I still get the shivers thinking about Robert Mitchum in The Night of the Hunter. Likewise the silhouette of the big cat in the original Cat People(?)I am a great believer in less-is-more in the horror genre; but maybe that's just my mind

I am very smelly...however, I did see the most greatest film last night - Burn After Reading (Coen Bros) with some of my favouritest actors - John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton and a hilarious Brad Pitt, however, it won't be everyone's fav cuppa as the humour is quite black and not More...

Mary, I don't watch horror movies, at the theater or at home. I tend to have some horrible dreams about my kids for weeks after, so it's not worth it to me.

Billy, going to see Burn After Reading, perhaps next weekend. NOT my typical movie, but looking forward to it.

Duh dah. Duh dah duh dah. Duh dah duh dah. I did that to my mother when we were floating about 100 yards from shore in the Atlantic, and I thought she was going to kill me.

Billy, I went to see Burn after Reading yesterday with my sister and BIL. We all loved it. And the main cast were superb - Brad Pitt doing a comedy turn was great. Tilda, Frances and John were wonderful as onw would expect. For those who haven't seen it - look out for what's in George Clooney's basement. Still laughing! I have to go back with hubby, sure he would like it too.

Terry!!!! I don't blame her!!!!
I don't 'do' horror, 'cos I'm a screamer. I have not seen any of Billy's movies. My 'horror' days are long in the past, but the impact of them remains. Still wary of the ocean.....(and preachers ).

Saw "As Good As It Gets" this weekend. Jack Nicholson, Helen Hunt; love them both! Old, it came out in 1997. Was a good movie. Look it up if you haven't seen it and like drama's that leave you occasionally bursting out with laughter.

Didn't care for OBWAT, glad I only rented it and didn't waste the money in the theater. Was a shame too, as I heard really good reviews and just couldn't get into it. Glad some of you love it!
