Snow Day! Schools are closed. Seems they close schools cursorily in my district.
(If they'd closed schools like this when I grew up, I'd still be in kindergarten!)

School districts are surely diverse, Shiela! I suppose travel safety is part of the decision process in areas where most of the students are involved with bus transport! When I was teaching in the city school district where most students did not require transport, it seemed that we NEVER had snow-days. We all rejoiced when one was declared!!

I grew up in Northern Michigan where the snow banks were higher than me. (Okay, it is true -I am short!) I went to a school of mostly bus students. My high school was 9 miles away. We seldom had snow days. In southern Michigan they seem to have 'snow days' quite often. They call off school for threats of snow, fog, ice & cold temps here.

In honor of Australia Day, I learned an Australian fact, in a list of foods eaten on Australia Day:
Damper is a thick homemade soda bread traditionally prepared by early European settlers in Australia.

I am having all sorts of new experiences today, doing the puzzles on Chrome instead of Firefox because of problems I was having on Firefox. Up until now, this was the sole site I used Firefox for, so now maybe this is the end of Firefox for me. The popups pop up in a different spot on Chrome, among other differences! It is odd to have the photo captions pop up over the puzzle instead of below the photo. I will get used to it!
