eaa in answer to your question, no the females are grey/brown with a blue tinge to their tails. We have two families of about ten in each, only one male colours up at a time it seems, else he has a lot of females!

2:58 Good Morning all. We have a little bit of sun here today so I am busy busy busy getting all sorts of cleaning done. I still haven't had a chance to read any posts since the new year so please forgive me if I have missed anybody's birthday!

Thanks for the info Lynda. We have a lot of wrens in our garden. the girls and babies are very plain. the immature males have the blue colouring in they tails. they are a very naughty bird, the males have girlfriends and present them with small pieces of flowers and while they are doing that the 'wife' is letting in her boyfriends in the backdoor.[so to speak]

Thanks CG, I'll be sure and check that one out. It sounds interesting.

Also I have noticed males moult back to the plain birds after mating season. i suppose that gives them protection from hawk attacks.
22/Jan/08 11:45 AM
The ladies are not known for their faithfullness! It is said that the gene pool is better for it though. They are very tame, we sit on the lawn and they hop all around us. Should try them with some meal worms. The last five years has seen the demise of local cats (sorry MizT)and the bird numbers have flourished.

We have some cockatiels in an aviary who shriek whenever they spot a hawk, the wrens and other small birds, siver eyes and the like make for the shrubbery until it is safe. You are right about the moulting, although the chap pictured must be mating all year!!

Safe trip Bean. I know what you mean about bucketing water, we don't have mains here so have a rainwater tank, if the power goes off, which it often does, the pump doesn't work, so no water!

My favourite dog, we had one years ago, she was totally untrainable, did her own thing. Would disappear down a rabbit hole and come home a couple of days later!

Enjoyed both Angies U-tubes & Lynda's wren jumps off the page - color is fantastic. We have Steller Jays that are a very dark blue, the only irridescent birds are the hummingbirds.
22/Jan/08 1:04 PM
Lynda, just love your avatar - such a vibrant blue! Beautiful little wren, you are very lucky to have him spend time with you.

I agree with the Pillars of the Earth recommendations that have been offered. I liked it so well that I then proceeded to read ALL of Follett's books in succession ... but, alas, none of them measured up! The book is very much in the genre of Gabaldon's Outlander ... if you liked that series, you'll like this book!

Almost silently, so as not to scare the fish, Bob says, "I think I'm More...

Have a safe trip, Bean.

Hi Broni

Got 2 grandchildren with us until tomorrow afternoon. That means I'll be dead tired by tomorrow night, won't have much time for Sudoku either and will have lots of reading to do after they go. Going to see "The Waterhorse" later this afternoon. Anyone seen it? Is there enough in it for adults?
22/Jan/08 3:40 PM
Miztricia1, my friends and family know of my weird humour, and a good joke needs to be shared.
22/Jan/08 3:43 PM
eaa, Yep, keep on sharing the jokes with us, too funny.

Oh the poor midget, I never thought of that!
