and goodwill to all teachers..

Little Davie watched, fascinated, as his mother smoothed cold cream on her face.
"Why do you do that, mommy?" he asked.
"To make myself beautiful," said his mother, who then began removing the cream with a tissue. "What's the matter?" asked Little Davie. "Giving up?"

Gotta love little Davie..
The math teacher saw that little Davie wasn't paying attention in class. She called on him and said, "Davie! What are 2 and 4 and 28 and 44?"

Little Davie quickly replied, "NBC, CBS, HBO and the Cartoon Network!"

Angie - loved the Nz Christmas - v funny.

When 9/11 happened in was night time in Australia and my husband and I were changing channels and saw a notice going across the screen in an episode of Jerry Springer (of all things). We switched to CNN and watched until 4AM when he had to go to work.

Another world-stopping moment (or day) not mentioned yet was the Asian tsunami. We watched in horror as the death toll reached hundreds of thousands! To this day that scares me because we live so close to the bay!
And then there was the death of Princess Di!

MizT - You sure know all the energy saving hints. You should be congratulated for your efforts. If we all tried in any small way we could, our planet would be better off.

Pearl Harbor, my dad was in high school when his family was forced to move from their home in California. Either that or go to a concentration camp. Then my uncle and father were drafted to serve in the army of a country that took their constitutional rights away.

The last big earthquake we had, I got a 3 week vacation while the district inspected all the schools to ensure that they were safe! I constructed a 3 ft model of Castle Caernavorn (spelling?) the castle where the Prince of Wales is invested in;

9-11, that morning when I came into to school, the principal met with us teachers to discuss how we would deal with the students on this issue. Some students were kept at home out of fear that the attack would extend to LA.

Nowadays, we try to teach the students to discuss differences in a peaceful manner in hopes that they do a better job than their parents and grandparents.

CynB: Re: Di's death.

Shosho, ever run across a book with the title, "Years of Infamy," by Michi Weglyn? If so, any opinions?
08/Dec/07 1:10 PM

Rayray: Di's death gets even more confusing every time I read more reports of the current inquest. Everyone loves conspiracy theories. It still looks like the paparazzi chase to me.
Despite those boys being priveliged Royals, they still lost their Mum, no matter what happened.

I remember the day she died but I remember more the day of her funeral. It was my daughter's wedding day and she and half of the guests were taping the funeral at home. We had a minute's silence at the wedding reception (at the bride's request)!

Ian/Boston - I realize that your question was for Shosho, but I have that title on my list of books to read before I die. I had heard about it last year on some late night talk show and it peaked my curiosity. I'd like to hear your opinion on it also.

Rayray: Your theory is more plausible than some I've heard. For example, that the silly old duke ordered it!

Thanks for the concern for Jazz and the rest of us....the world continues to spin and we are hanging on for dear life!..Jazz is back home looking pretty sad since his head is encased in one of those big plastic things to prevent his licking at his very large incision. Mamacita - DO take time to watch out for yourself during all of this time. Think about your trip down the road to California - Tell Sully and Jazz they must behave or they will just have to take care of each other while you are gone.
Many of us are thinking about you while this is going on.

The Queen Mum and Phillip - well - they were in accord.
A moselem baby in the household? - no way! But the Queen - no - she is a REAL professional. She takes her trade seriously.

Jamie...you are so sweet...thanks. Believe me, the thought of my upcoming trips is what has helped keep me going. The only problem is that all of my money is flying away too....After my trip in April, I'm going to call a halt to all extraneous spending....have to try to rebuild while we can...or I should say, hope we can.

Rayray: Yes, the Queen is a professional. I have nothing but admiration for her, despite being an aussie republican. She's getting on and the "job" must be a strain on her. The QM and Phil were/are dinosaurs of a previous bigoted generation.

I can certainly understand that, Mamacita. When we get ready to look at my retiring next year, my salary will be cut in half, so we are going to really look at expenses beginning as soon as we finish our taxes for this year.
