Good Maen, good people. For all the snow we get, it's not often we're under a blizzard warning. We'll see what develops.

Didn't miss the first page by much.

My 11 year old will be exactly 11 during the next 15 minutes. She is still sleeping.

She was up late last night due to a bit of nasal stuffiness plus all the soft drinks at the 4-H meeting last night were caffeinated. Did that make sense serving caffeinated drinks to kids on a school More...

GRRRRR.... Been trying *unsuccessfully* to login to that Bissell MVP site for the past 15 mins. I guess poor Petruccio will have one vote less. Sorry, Vici.
02/Feb/11 1:31 AM
Little Plum!
May all of your birthday wishes come true!
02/Feb/11 1:32 AM
No! No! Don't give up Captain J!!!!
02/Feb/11 1:33 AM
Wishing all of you a very happy and peaceful day wherever you are.
I am very sad to what happening now in Egypt while I am in USA and my Daughter and family are in Cairo facing a very hard times.
Let us pray to our God to protect them and gives the peace to everyone.

Thank you, Karen, et al. I just showed Little Plum that Sudokuland has declared today the Worldwide Celebration of Little Plum Day and the wishes posted. She is suitably impressed and delighted. I think she wants to solve some puzzles.
02/Feb/11 1:44 AM
Shiela, I took your advice and tried once more - and it worked! Now I hope Petruccio will reign supreme.

Spectaculorum procedere debet!

Just read yesterday's posts. Phantom, since you've asked, you're officially invited to my party. Saturday from 2-5 p.m. Michigan time (6-9 a.m. Sunday morning Sudokuland time). We'll order you up an igloo to stay in; it's being delivered tonight. I still have time to upgrade and have the storm install a FPA in the igloo if you're interested. Let me know.
02/Feb/11 1:58 AM
Vici, I think I was able to vote every day. Hope your Sudokuland connections made the difference! Go, Petruccio!

Must go and oversee the filling of water jugs, the charging of batteries and finding of flashlights and lanterns and candles. Plus the laundry needs to be caught up, extra wood brouht inside, and I need to plan and precook food for the next few days to warm up on the stove in case the electricity More...

I know some have been waiting patiently.

Since this is Groundhog's Day in Sudokuland (tomorrow in the US)... Is this day celebrated in any other place than the US, I wonder?
02/Feb/11 2:49 AM
Thanks, Jerry! MMMMmmmm! Perfect! Coffee is great!
02/Feb/11 2:51 AM
Little Plum!
Enjoy your day with your family and friends!
02/Feb/11 2:58 AM
Jerry, Fiona will pop in and tell us that February 2 is Pancake Day in France. Groundhog Day originated in, I believe, the Germanic area of Europe. It is one of the days - I'll have to find the name for them - that fall precisely in the middle of the seasons, between an equinox and a solstice. That's why the winter/spring seasonal transition question comes up.
02/Feb/11 3:21 AM

You are waiting for the 'official school report' (12:04AM) to tell you where to find your longjohns?

It is much more likely that your Man can tell you.
02/Feb/11 3:26 AM
Groundhog Day originates with the idea that animals have an awareness of the change of seasons that they can communicate to an observer.

It also ties into the clouds and rain that accompany the transition to spring. So, if it's sunny, winter still has its full grip on the weather, and, More...

Wagdy, you and all your family are in our thoughts and prayers. I hope Sandy and her husband (and other family members) will be OK.
02/Feb/11 4:07 AM
Little Plum. What a wonderful age to be. have a fun day.

A rather hot night. The AC is on but still feels rather warm. It is +31°C outside and I thought they said it would be a cooler day than yesterday!
02/Feb/11 4:11 AM
Plum - I've noticed that birds and squirrels seem to have awareness of changing weather... Considering that when there is a storm coming they really start packing in the bird food (a.k.a. squirrel food)... as in today. Makes sense to me they might know the seasonal changes as well.
02/Feb/11 4:31 AM
The world-wide weather today brings to mind an old Kingston Trio ditty, with apologies to the Trio for the revisions ...
They're rioting in Africa,
they're starving in Spain.
It's blizzarding in America,
and Australia has rain!
What Nature doesn't do to us,
will be done by our fellow man!
02/Feb/11 4:48 AM
How'd the epidural go, Captain J? I'm glad you're taking the mandatory day off afterwards.
02/Feb/11 4:49 AM
Wagdy... I hope all of your family members and friends in Cairo are safe. Not knowing what is happening to them has to be a frightening feeling. I know all of us here are deeply concerned, and praying for the best possible outcome.
02/Feb/11 4:53 AM
Judy.... very appropriate ditty. And WHEN are you going to add an avatar? Something like this, maybe?
02/Feb/11 4:55 AM
I cannot believe how fast we frooze. All faucets were dripping this morning around 6:30. By 10, just the bathroom, cold side is working. Man keeps calling with instructions and the girls are wearing me out, just by trying to keep socks and slippers on their feet. This house was not made for winter weather. It was 24 hours ago, I was enjoying 70F weather.

Vici stole my comment and said it more eloquently than I would have ... something about the pretty blue and purple flowers.
02/Feb/11 5:00 AM
I know, Heidi ... everyone is tired of my bland posts and ages-old photos! At the moment, I'm trying to be more productive, which means I'm not dedicating additional time to my computer life. I will update at some point! Nice avatar, though ... on whose butt shall we draw the target?
02/Feb/11 5:02 AM
HI all! Karen, froozing must be a Texas thing, is it? Little Plum, best wishes, you are not so little now. Wagdy, especially thinking of you and fingers crossed that everything will come right in Egypt.
02/Feb/11 5:04 AM
It's Bubble Bu ... I mean, Bubble Head!
02/Feb/11 5:05 AM
Plum (the big one), Grasshopper, and Jim got the correct answers yesterday while CG had a damn good try. The movies I was looking for were:
1. Blades of Glory
2. Superman Returns
3. Lord of the Rings
4. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
5. Fantastic Four
6. Jaws

You are just feeling smart, Judy, because Phanty complimented you on actually having a heart in place of a swinging brick. Makes you sound like something on the yellow brick road. And here was I thinking you were the wicked witch.
02/Feb/11 5:09 AM
Here's today's brain teaser - answers to the 'Karen's froozen' inbox please.
Listed below are clues that refer to 2 different words. The sound of these words, put together, make a different compound word. Also, just to make things even trickier, when you figure out the words, you might need to More...

Morning all! -12* and that's not wind chill. I have no water this morning. Lots of running around shutting off the main valve, opening faucets, checking pipes, etc. Why do things always happen when honey is out of town? Cabana Boy is of no help in domestic problems.
02/Feb/11 5:11 AM
Phantom, pray tell what is cabanossi? Geez, you would think it was Armageddon the way they're acting with this weather. Parents are in Chicago and say it's not bad yet, light flurries.
