If you suspect that the teenage child of people you know very well is on drugs, should you mention your fears to them? The teenager displays most of the signs listed on some internet pages I found. As a parent, I would want to be told, but don't want to be seen as interfering. They are about to More...

22/May/07 12:24 AM
Susan, I really am not sure what the correct thing to do would be. I would want to know. You can't change what you don't know about. Good luck with the decision.

I had some friends whose son was doing drugs, I thought so from watching him, and my daughter knew him and confirmed it. I told the father and he thanked me but the mother didn't like me telling lies about her son, go figure. She never apologized for calling me a liar but she did figure out later More...

Susan...Sorry to hear you are troubled about this problem. You and I are probably the only two people in the world who would accept the information with a thank you. Be prepared to loose a friend or be rejected if you tell them. Most parents are in denial (even though they know it is true), and More...

I'm not sure that you two would be the only thankful parents, DAVE. Of course, it's difficult to separate the message from the messenger, but I would want to know.

SUSAN ... A child's life or the chance of a ruined friendship? ... no contest.

I was down at the pub the other night and I had already had a couple of sherbets when I noticed this good looking sort walk in, bit of a stunner for someone who looked as though her 50th had slipped by unnoticed.

I ambled over and chatted her up with my normal suave 'G'day - wanna midi More...

Susan, If they are about to evict him because of his behavior, they probably already suspect. If they talk to you about it, you'll have an opportunity to ask if they have ever considered that he might be experimenting with drugs? That way, you're not accusing, just showing concern.

Susan: I have a troubled child and every time I discover something horrible about him, my heart sinks and I feel helpless. I think the problem with someone telling you something bad is that you feel powerless to do anything about it. You feel like the person telling you is expecting you to do More...

Susan, Kathy and Martha were both right on. It's a difficult situation that only the child can effectively deal with from the inside. External influences (parents, teachers, therapists, The Judicial System) will have an impact, but there's no telling whether that impact will be positive or More...
