Good day to all - we are having "fun" trying to put together our Balinese bamboo bed. It has moved with us several times over the years but it is 5 years since we last built it - good humour is not top of the agenda - think I will go put the kettle on - or open a bottle - or make mince pies or..... anything downstairs..... If you think IKEA is difficult try this for a holiday 'game!'
27/Dec/09 12:05 AM
No it's not the rabbit / dingo fence Vici, They'd hop right through or over or under that one. Greetings all. Hope you have recovered from your festivities
27/Dec/09 12:10 AM
Oh! GMo! I don't envy you one bit! Hope you saved the instructions over the years! But then, if yours is anything like mine, they never look at them anyway! Should have tried this before Christmas when the lump of coal was still a threat!
27/Dec/09 12:10 AM

Good Morning to everyone! This is a nice peaceful picture this morning.

It rained a lot yesterday, but we still have a "white" ground. More snow is in the forecast.

Thank you for all the Christmas greetings. I hope everyone enjoyed their Christmas Day.

2:09 Good evening one and all.
That purple flower in the photo could be a weed known as Patterson's Curse. There have been photos on before showing it if I remember rightly. Which isn't good to take my word for it as I don't remember much very rightly these days!

No, Vici. We joined our other son and his wife's family for Christmas in Indiana. It was our other son's turn to be at DIL's family for Christmas and we were very graciously invited to join them. I would have spent day at a homeless shelter dinner our church provides each year on Christmas day, if I hadn't, but chose to be with son #2.

Good Morning everyone! Because we don't get enough cat photos, I just uploaded our kitty Jr's to my page.
His story is long. We found him in our backyard, a feral kitty afraid of everyone. At one point he almost died and we nursed him back to health. He became an indoor cat as I was More...

Paterson's curse, Echium plantagineum (known as Salvation Jane in South Australia) is an introduced winter annual from the Mediterranean. Free of native Mediterranean plant and insect communities, it has become a dominant pasture weed of temperate Australia. from CSIRO notes

Happy Christmas hangover!!!

Oooh, we have invasive plants brought as early as the Spanish padres - mustard plants, wild wheat, barley, oats, raddish - which can cover entire fields in a season to plants that later people brought and have gone hog wild with the landscape. Well meaning people including the government bring in plants and animals to solve one problem but destroy the environment.

Bed now constructed, mattress airing, glass of medicinal Champagne and orange juice in hand - will find some bedding that fits bed later, or tomorrow.......
27/Dec/09 2:42 AM
Shosho... Then there is Kudzu........
27/Dec/09 2:52 AM
Heidi, I may have already told this story, but once I saw a huge stand of close-growing cane overarched by a blanket of kudzu. It fascinated me because I saw in it a battle with an undetermined victor. It makes me wonder what's left standing there today.

Hope people are having good times with family and friends. Burl and I are still trying to recuperate from this head cold. It's yucky weather and everything's iced under the snow and very slippery outside. So yesterday and today have been movie marathons and we're eating ham, ham and more ham. I hope we can get out to go to church tomorrow.
27/Dec/09 3:21 AM
Hope you and Burl are feeling better soon, Plum!
27/Dec/09 3:31 AM
Good afternoon to all! Pretty poison in today's picture.
27/Dec/09 4:17 AM
Anne, thanks for naming the plant and Fiona, thank you for the detailed information. We have seen this plant before and if I remember there was also discussion of a number of natural predators introduced to try to control this weed, including weevils and beetles. Is this another reason why farmers do controlled burns in their paddocks each spring?

'Twas the day after Christmas, and all through the house,
Every creature was hurtin', even the mouse.
The toys were all broken, their batteries dead;
Santa passed out, with some ice on his head.

Wrapping and ribbons just covered the floor,
While upstairs the family continued to More...
