24/Feb/18 2:12 AM
Good Maen, good people. It has gotten chilly again after all the rain that's causing the worst flooding in a decade or two or three. We aren't directly affected but we know so many people and businesses who are. It is surprising how much snow remains from the earlier plowing of the deep snowfall. More...

Where's Shiela - she's been missing lately!
24/Feb/18 4:05 AM
shosho - shopping in my town is currently unimpeded by flood or snow/ice mounds. I'm sure we don't have 'fun' shopping compared to major cities, but it's not difficult at all. The floods here are mostly affecting parks and homes along the rivers.

However, cities downriver have square miles More...

24/Feb/18 6:46 AM
everybody. Hot again today, was still 30c at midnight last night
24/Feb/18 7:23 AM
I think Shosho thought the rain made the snow melt into sheets of ice on the parking lot, rather than icebergs conveniently placed to make parking available and driving possible. I know about those mountains of frozen solid snow because I spent some childhood years in Ohio!
24/Feb/18 7:59 AM
In Washington, the snow usually melts in a day or two, so our snow mountains don't get a chance to freeze solid. And we don't get that lovely, or disgusting, black ice along the side of roads.
24/Feb/18 8:02 AM
Ah, memories of mid-childhood: dirty snow.
24/Feb/18 8:02 AM

In our area big snowfalls are rare. That is not to say we haven't had them....we've had some doozies, but, not often. At least in my area, snow removal is pretty good. Even the side streets get plowed out in a day or so. Sarah is correct, the piles of snow usually don't last long.
24/Feb/18 8:19 AM
Glad your stress test was A-okay, Peter!
And, I am so happy Wombat is back with us!
24/Feb/18 8:23 AM
Good catch, Sarah. Poor shosho. I knew what I was talking about.
24/Feb/18 8:58 AM
Joyce - I tried texting Shiela. No response yet. She gave me a phone number years ago at a Sudoku meet up. I don't know if she still has the same number. I don't recall her saying she is traveling, but it is possible.
24/Feb/18 9:04 AM
shosho - you were right and I was wrong. It ISN'T any fun in my town at present. I had to drive through town today. Since yesterday they have closed roads and bridges and forced evacustions of some riverside properties, so detoured traffic is heavy and clogging the remaining roads. It didn't More...

Late last summer the river was so low I could have crossed it and barely gotten my knees wet. There's a walkway bridge in the park I like to cross and stand on looking down at the river below. Recent aerial photos show that bridge underwater. Only the handrails are showing.

I suspect this regional flooding in SW Michigan and Northern Indiana has made national news. It's been record breaking rainfall and flooding in several locations.
