PACHINKO PARLOUR

The entrance to a pachinko (pinball) parlour; Umeda, Osaka, Japan; 1975. Pachinko appears to be the Japanese national sport. Usually packed with punters, the parlours advertise themselves at distance with the swishing sound of balls circulating within the machines.

I remember in 1972 my cousins took me to a pachinko parlor. All I could remember from their instructions was to get as many of those ball bearings as possible. When it was time to go, we had to exchange those balls for prizes. I had no idea of their value, so I request chocolate bars. Got a big box of them!
