Gorgeous. My favorite memories of Jacarandas is from Costa Rica. I remember riding through the pass from Escazu to Santa Ana, on an old ox cart trail, in the start of the rainy season, and seeing Jacarandas in bloom wherever I looked. And these were huge trees, too. Incredible sight, with the Poas volcano usually smoking in the background.

The street where we lived before moving to Torrance was lined for blocks with Jacaranda trees. Every spring the street became purple! Of course it rained purple blossoms. What memories you brought!

The name Jacaranda is derived from its 18th century Portugese name; maybe coined through observations in Brazil. All 50 species of this plant genus originate from tropical Americas (including the West Indies). From there, as an ornamental tree, it has been transported to tropical areas world-wide.
