Morning all!
Happy Thanksgiving!
If I hadn't read first I would have got to chat to Tami!

Tami, I can’t imagine how your friend is feeling! Sending thoughts, wishes and an extra strength I can spare…
And Tami reminded me to give you an update, though I should go back to check I haven’t said this before… the school called the drinking girl’s mother, she is suspended for 2 days (would have been more but she hasn’t been suspended before), and her mother ‘isn’t buying her any c presents’ – though from what Ebob has told me the Wii is already in the cupboard so will wait to see what happens there.

My mother is saved from the ‘follow her daughter around the shops routine’ as I don’t enjoy doing it either! She also never eats out – well, close enough to never.
Broni in your photos etc you look very slim. You must have been teeny tiny before to think you are not slim now! What did you decide to keep from the Teresa Collection? Not the skirts/dresses I am guessing! I would probably keep them because they fitted well etc, then they would hang in the closet taking up space until I cleared them out in a couple of years…

June I fell asleep in the recliner last night! Just for an hour or so, but I got a shock when I woke up and realised I had been asleep…
MizT, Ally looked most un-excited when I told her about it. I asked if she was sure she wanted to do it as she didn’t look very happy about it. She told me she was happy on the inside it just wasn’t getting all the way up to her face….

Susan, I have been looking ahead to that paying for Uni thing too. Really scary. A few of my friends are looking into the gap year with the Navy. Have you heard about that? Basically the kids work for the Navy for a year, pay is $32,000. At the end of the year you can sign up or move on. No wars. If they earn $18k in any job they qualify for Austudy and my friends think this is one way to do it. I’m not sure how I feel about putting my kid in possible harms way, and whether or not they will still have the motivation to go to Uni after taking a year off and earning money.... Then I step back and say, well, not really going to be up to me at that stage anyway! Still thinking about which direction the encouragement should go though.

Feeling a bit melancholy here. Hubby has just left to go to Adelaide for a mate's 50th and I miss him already. He wont be back until Monday evening sometime.

On the other hand, we have been having the best time! Rena, Amber and I went to the beach yesterday. Weatherwise, it looked like the best of all the days they were going to be here, so we grabbed the opportunity. Raining or not, they were going to get into the water! It wasn't raining, and they have now, officially, swum in Aussie waters!

And now I need to give another thank you to those who pointed out that a trusting teacher is a good thing. I needed to hear that.
BTW Ebob was standing with the girls while they drank the alcohol. The teacher must have been watching them drink as she pointed to the 3 other girls (you, you and you) and when Ebob asked was she involved in this too the answer was no. I am thankful for my wonderful children!!

Morning Gail!
I was going to say that it sucked that hubby would be away for date night, then realised you will have Rena and Amber and wouldn't have had date night anyway. So the upside is that you only miss one date night instead of 2!

Yay they got to swim! It was sunny here yesterday too, though the forcast was for storms. Same forcast for today...
Today Ally and her class will be riding their bicycles about 7km, watching a parachute drop into a field, then riding back the 7km. The school has very cleverly arranged to have cars and trailers accompany the kids so the ones who don't make it have a ride. About a half of the kids are not riding their bikes at all - chickens!

We stopped off yesterday on our way home to shop for the gathering tomorrow. Getting excited about that now!

It's one of my old friend's daughters. She was one of my bridesmaids (what do you call it when they're married?) and couldn't work out why she couldn't lose weight before my wedding - turns out she was pregnant with Sarah - the birthday girl.
A whole bunch of old friends that I see very rarely these days will be going so it would be like a reunion.
But what a sucky time of year! It's on my birthday, which is the same day as the work c party, and Ally is doing all sorts of stuff for Carols in the Park. I wouldn't mind missing my birthday and the work party, but it's nearly a days travel each way...

Gail, I can't either. We are getting ready to go to my sis-in-law's house. It is hubby's sis, but she invited my parents also. There will be 14 of us and she is an excellent cook. She is always teaching me new things.

In essence, the post said that today, instead of going to the museum, an opportunity too good to resist was offered. This morning, Rena is going flying with vdV. After that, we will be having a BBQ lunch with him. Wongerful.
Tonight we are meeting up with a woman from Guides Victoria who has been trying very hard to find us a meeting for Amber to attend while they are here. Unfortunately, it fell through, but she would still like to meet our visitors from Canada.

Yes, here too. I must take my leave and have a shower. Then I get Hannah up to have hers. I am giving her the day off so she can spend the day with us. She has a pupil-free day on Monday too so we have a lot of things planned for the weekend.
Might drop in again tonight.
Everyone have a great day, and a truly thankful one.
Happy Thanksgiving.

One day I found two pumpkin seeds.
I planted one and pulled the weeds.
It sprouted roots and a big, long vine.
A pumpkin grew; I called it mine.
The pumpkin was quite round and fat.
(I really am quite proud of that.)
But there is something I'll admit
That has me worried just a bit.
I ate the other seed, you see.
Now will it grow inside of me?

The year has turned its circle,
The seasons come and go.
The harvest all is gathered in
And chilly north winds blow.
Orchards have shared their treasures,
The fields, their yellow grain,
So open wide the doorway ---
Thanksgiving comes again!

When all the leaves are off the boughs,
And nuts and apples gathered in,
And cornstalks waiting for the cows,
And pumpkins safe in barn and bin,
Then Mother says, "My children dear,
The fields are brown, and autumn flies;
Thanksgiving Day is very near,
And we must make thanksgiving pies!"

Thoughts of Thanksgiving
(Charles Frederick White)
Thanksgiving day is coming soon,
That long remembered day
When nature gives her blessed boon
To all America.
On that glad day, in all our land,
The people, in their wake,
Give thanks to God, whose mighty hand
Deals blessings good and great.
The roast goose, steaming on the plate,
The sweet potato cobbler,
The cranberry sauce, the pudding baked,
The seasoned turkey gobbler,
All these delights and many more,
From north, south, west and east,
Do all the nation keep in store
For this Thanksgiving feast.
Alas, for those who are denied
This blessed boon of God!
May all the needy be supplied
Like Israel by the rod.

Funny Bird
(Author Unknown)
A turkey is a funny bird,
Its head goes wobble, wobble,
All it knows is just one word,
"Gobble, gobble, gobble."

Harvest
John Charles McNeill, 1874-1907
Cows in the stall and sheep in the fold;
Clouds in the west, deep crimson and gold;
A heron's far flight to a roost somewhere;
The twitter of killdees keen in the air;
The noise of a wagon that jolts through the gloam
On the last load home.
There are lights in the windows; a blue spire of smoke
Climbs from the grange grove of elm and oak.
The smell of the Earth, where the night pours to her
Its dewy libation, is sweeter than myrrh,
And an incense to Toil is the smell of the loam
On the last load home.

Giving Thanks
(Author Unknown)
For the hay and the corn and the wheat that is reaped,
For the labor well done, and the barns that are heaped,
For the sun and the dew and the sweet honeycomb,
For the rose and the song and the harvest brought home --
Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving!
For the trade and the skill and the wealth in our land,
For the cunning and strength of the workingman's hand,
For the good that our artists and poets have taught,
For the friendship that hope and affection have brought --
Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving!
For the homes that with purest affection are blest,
For the season of plenty and well-deserved rest,
For our country extending from sea unto sea;
The land that is known as the "Land of the Free" --
Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving!
