Meteora

The area consists of a number of rock pinnacles topped with a total of 24 monasteries. These immense, solid rocks, split by earthquakes, weathered by water and wind over millions of years, are nature’s authentic masterpieces.
We visited two of the more accessible monasteries.

I took that from another monastery. One we had about 100 steps to climb and the other there was a bridge across.

Wow! What a place!. I can see the stairs leading to the stone door. No ancient army could ever invade there!

Well, monasteries were for contemplation & prayer - good way of keeping the monks/priests/nuns (whatever!) at home!!!

That is absolutely beautiful. It's mind boggling what they used to achieve with so little help, other than blood, sweat and tears. Truly amazing!
