BRIDESMAIDS; Solok, West Sumatra, Indonesia. A RECENT PERSON-PICTURE

I asked this lady; one of a line of about 40 bridesmaids in a wedding procession passing through the old town of Solok; if I could take her photograph, and she obliged very positively and with formidable determination. I often try to interpret the facial expressions of her neighbours in the line-up. The 'lamp-shades' on their heads are actually hats !!

The one in front of your subject is definitely giving you the eye. It must have been an interesting procession.

Heidi: Yes it was an incredible procession. Such weddings take place nowhere else. I wish I had taken more photographs of it and of the people there on that rare occasion.

Forty bridesmaids! Imagine making all those dresses!
If they are all that ornate, I can only ponder at how beautiful the bride must have looked.

I was thinking "always the bridesmaid, never the bride" when I saw their expressions. LOVE the hats! Reminds me of my past life of partying

Jane:
I picked out this woman to ask her for the picture, because I judged her to be a real character - strong; humorous; determined etc. When I indicated what I wanted, she almost militarily turned towards me with great deliberation, then at once adopted that extra-ordinary facial expression - which really makes the picture fun. She was a good choice of subject - really great!
