Mahalia Jackson - one of the truly great spiritual singers. I Believe has been a favorite of mine, since I was a child.
Easter is our celebration of what is to come for us, not in this life, but the next. Without Easter, what would we have to look forward to? Have a Blessed Easter and always remember what is truly important.

Hi Mamacita. I hope you have recovered from your recent ordeal. I hope you were not offended when I challenged what you intended to be a compliment. Some other people tell me I am always looking for new things but neglect the day-to-day. In your generous follow-up comment you explained in more detail and I thank you for that.
I have just completed my story about Barnacle Geese - now posted on My Page. The phenomenon was new when I observed it at the age of 21, but it is now 'old hat', and TV documentaries have been made about it.

Mamacita - Congrats to Villanova - cheer on - KU - will be a tough.
I go to a very small church - the Choir all 8 members sang the Hallelujah Chorus this morning. We had about 90 communicants this morning - normally it would be around 40.
There are larger churches of the same denomination closer - it is over 20 miles to this little Church. The reason I chose it is because it uses the literagy of my childhod - which was used in Germany 500 years ago - however they sang it in German - we sing it in English. In the late 60's while traveling in Germany, we attended a service and could sing along in English - but couldn't understand the sermon. Neither of us spoke German after being raised in a "German" Lutheran Church & School. I guess when they say give me that "Old Time Religion" - they are talking about me.
Time to change my U-tube to "How Great Thou Art".
I had considered Mahalia Jackson's video, but chose another. Hope you enjoy it.

This was the song I wanted sung at my wedding. I went to a very strick church & they would not allow it. Jan Peerce - "Because" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cP7eTg1ckLg
The first related on this you-tube is "Blue Bird of Happiness"
I'm sure you will love both of them.
BTW - click on the "more" button on "About this Video" (top right). A little bio on Jan Peerce. I still have a 33 of his. I'm also a Mario Lanza fan, love a good tenor and/or barratone.

Britt announced their season earlier this week - some of the music I have to look forward to this summer:
Crosby, Stills & Nash
Earth, Wind & Fire
Mark Knopfler
Three Dog Night
BB King
Clint Black
Judy Collins
Craig Chaquico/Jesse Cook
Keb Mo & Taj Mahal
RTF - Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Al DiMeola & Lenny White
LeAnne Rimes
Lyle Lovett
Bonnie Raitt
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
Wynton Marsalis
Neville Bro & Dr. John
Bill Bob Thornton
and a dozen or so other concerts plus the Classical Season & Dance on the hill in Jacksonville
also Britt concerts at Lithia (a larger facility):
Willie Nelson
Steve Miller Band
Brooks & Dunn
Should be quite a summer. The entire schedule is at: brittfest.org
BTW: Both LeAnne Rimes & Judy Collins have great videos of "Amazing Grace" on You Tube. At my husband's memorial I had a bag-pipper start on the bridge and walked up the path to the pavaillion playing Amazing Grace. After the service the Indian flute & pipers and bag-pipper had a wonderful time playing together - exchanging their talents. The tenor sang "I Believe" & "You'll Never Walk Alone" and a friend led those in attendance in "Be Still My Soul". The service was held at Descanso Gardens, where I was Treasurer when they put the Rose Garden & Pavillion in.

I think it was you who gave me the info on gel versus acrylic nails...sorry if my AAADD messed up my memory... The idea of $40 every two weeks for fills was daunting so tonight I put gel nails on d1 myself. She is having fun trying to get used to having nails (short nails, but still past the end of her fingers rather than bitten to the quick) and I have my fingers very tightly crossed that nothing goes wrong with them!!!!

Hello Mamacita - Just in case I don't have a chance to tell you, I thought I would today.....I hope you have a very relaxing and fun vacation. You have certainly had your unfair share of problems this last year and deserve a rest!!!!! (Although vacations aren't always restful!) None-the-less, I am hoping it will be a vacation to be remembered.
I am so glad to hear that your sister isn't facing a serious illness. It could have been so much worse, but with rest, diet and a vacation I think she will do fine! I will definitely keep her in my prayers. (And you too!)
God Bless you both!

Mamacita - I can't remember exactly what date you are leaving, maybe April 4 or 5? But I didn't want to miss wishing you a Bon Voyage! I hope you'll be able to relax & enjoy your travels without worrying too much about the homefront. Are you going to miss seeing the Final Four games this weekend? I'm very torn over the KU-UNC game on Sat. night, but think I'll have to go with UNC. My parents both worked for UNC Athletic Dept. part time after they retired, & my brother, his wife & two sons are huge Tarheel fans. We only connected with KU for 1 1/2 years when Rob was there studying for his Masters. Great memories of the Jayhawks, but many more from the UNC connections. Plus I really think UNC has a better team. We'll see. Rob thinks the UCLA-Memphis game will be the best of all, & he picks UCLA to win it all. Eve will be thrilled if that happens!

Mama, Want to wish you a great trip. I had so much fun when we went Jan 2007. We tried to do everything, figured I might not ever get back. The one thing I did not know about was Cleopatra's Needle in Paris. We went to the Louvre on Thursday night it was 1/2 price. I had a cousin in Paris the same time we were, she had lived in Paris for 3 years, was fantastic to have a guide.
Have fun, do everything you can, rest when you get home. Make sure you take care of your self.

Eve, I Love Ella! It wasn't till I bought my first Ella CD (~20yrs ago!) that I realized she was the voice behind the songs in many movies & musicals - always thought they did their own singing; how naive was that!

Reflections of Paris and London Trip
The trip had an inauspicious beginning. The plane ride, while uneventful, was uncomfortable...I've learned that next time I will go first class. I need to be able to move about more than the coach seats permitted. Lesson learned!
Once we arrived at the hotel, we found that the first rooms were very small. Trying to walk around, I promptly fell...raising a big lump on my knee and elbow....This required serious action. We requested upgrades, and were given beautiful suites and executive priviledges....we then rested a bit. I've already mentioned the unfavorable weather....cold,wind,hail,rain and snow....but nothing would stop us from enjoying ourselves now!
We of course were ready to do all of the tourist sights. While at the Eiffel Tower, our first stop. we became entangled in the Olympics protest. Challenges, Challenges. We were able to move away from the crowds, which had been very unruly the day before in London, without incident. Sunday, we attended a very moving mass at Notre Dame....Simply said, I was awestruck! Absolutely spectacular! Besides the tourist stuff, shopping exploring etc, we managed to travel around using the Metro, and found good food, great jazz clubs and nice people....all in all...Paris was great! The biggest drawback for us is that none of us had mobile phone service, and trying to let family know we were okay using the French lines and money took a bit of figuring out, but we mastered it. I did however miss making contact with any of the sudoku friends in that area.
We left Paris on the Th and traveled to London via the Euro star train.....a fabulous way to travel! This was great!

We arrived in London in the afternoon of the 10th. Our rooms this time were larger, and quite nice...good thing too since the hotel was full of folks who were taking part in the London Marathon. While we didn't have suites, the executive privileges were in tact.
Again, we made the tourist rounds, attended Sunday service at Westminster Abbey, and also an organ recital there as well. The guest organist was a young Aussie named Travis Baker. While it was an amazing place, I preferred Notre Dame.
The use of the underground allowed us to travel around and cover a great deal of ground in getting to the sights...but it also required a lot of walking which was very tiring for my sister and myself, but we hung in there.
We saw Afrika! Afrika! which was an amazing circus like adventure, that just completely rejuvenated us. We also got to see Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty's Theater. It too was spectacular. We managed to win money in the casinos as we dashed in and out to get out of the rain, we cruised the River Thames, and of course rode in the London Eye.....we even got to shop at Harrods, among the many other areas where we explored.... We attempted to see the Changing of the Guards at Buckingham Palace, but when we got there we found they wouldn't be changing until the next day, Tuesday, and that was the day we were leaving to return home. I was disappointed at that, but we did get to see the beautiful grounds . Ganny Mo finally reached me on the phone that day, so I was able to chat with her for a short while. When I reached home I had quite a few messages from both Mo and André who had been trying to reach me. I was happy to have had at least one live call connect out of their many attempts. All in all...the trip was wonderful...I loved the beauty, the cleanliness of the cities, and the very friendly people. I was impressed with their mass transit systems and their exposer to worldwide news. The only thing I found unpleasant was the constant smoking in the streets....I think that they may be headed for the same health problems that affected the U.S sooner rather than later.I also greatly enjoyed the food and wine. I see why there are fewer fat French and Brits in Europe...they walk so much which is good, and they really seem to take great pleasure in eating slowly, relishing the food and social intercourse...we did too.
The trip was wonderful! I'd love to go again!
