STARS AND STRIPES FOREVER

VULCAN, the world's Largest Cast Iron Statue, stands atop Red Mountain, overlooking Downtown Birmingham (shown) and the over the mountain area of Homewood. Vulcan was recently taken down for an extensive refurbishing, and when replaced he was rotated slightly on his pedestal so that he no longer mooned Homewood. Vulcan is the Roman god of the forge, a fitting symbol of Birmingham's past iron and steel industry. He has stood watch over Birmingham for 100+ years.

MizTricia, I never seem to be able to catch anyone now that we're not setting our timers! Thank you for all of your congratulatory messages! You were a great partner! How are you doing? I still haven't caught up on my house and I went shopping with daughter#1 yesterday and then took my son to find a tux for the prom which is this weekend. He always waits until the last minute. He had to pay a rush fee. (I told him I wouldn't pay for that part!) I hope to catch you later! Have a good day!

Hey Miz T, It looks as if we are set up with the email, but I thought I'd drop by and answer your question about the pool on my page. It was one of my favorite spots to sip and dip at my son's home in Florida. The pool was in his complex, and is not his private pool. I use the past tense, because Hurricane Wilma damaged it badly, and its not back up to full snuff as yet. We can still sit out there, but as of now, we can do better elsewhere. More later. Peace

Hi MizTricia - no tome tonight but I look forward to exchanging some quilting chat with you and others. Somewhere I have kept a list of sudokuists who have identified themselves as quilters, I'll try to find it.

me again....i just realized i didn't answer your questions! please accept my apologies! i have no excuse, just didn't pay attention, i guess.
in NC, we are about 2 hrs from Kitty Hawk. In LA, we are about 20 miles from the gulf in central LA. yes, the area was hit hard by Katrina and Rita, but we were here after that. we visited MS right after Katrina to help hand out necessities. it was beyond words. i submitted some pictures from that time and have seen only one used. it was on the kids page and was not very well received. guess i could have chosen better than a kid's page. i just wasn't thinking. but then, Gath has the final say......
i'll look for the sudokuholics page. i have been missing everyone in the chat room also. i was wondering what was up with that....
thanks for letting me know about the new page. chat with you there...ps. i'm a quilter, also. more on that topic later.

Hi MizTricia, sent to email address, but looks like I've been booked up with 'work' commitments. I love quilting too and hope to drop into the 'Quilts in the District' shop which is in Mount Olive. Any more suggestions welcome!

ANDREA, Since you do not have a page, must answer you here. We did not see your mail at the business address. You went to the website? and put your email address there on a 'contact us' form? And pushed the button to send?

I am sorry you are having trouble getting mail to me. OK, let me suggest this. Take the D word from that URL, and put with @AOL.com that will get you to our mail box. Put HI TRICIA in the subject and he can forward straight to my box.

Will you have transportation in Birmingham? I would suggest the zoo, botanical gardens, and Vulcan, close driving distance. For a look at downtown Birmingham, they had the DART transit system of 'look like' troleys that run routes downtown, and that might be a fun, inexpensive short sightseeing ride. Birmingham has a nice museum, and I think the GEES BEND Quilts are there I think till July. Actually, you could walk across the park across from Museum, get the DART and ride the north south route, and return, nice to ride and not drive through the city center. there is a civil rights museum on the south side downtown. Midtown, there is a hands on museum,The McWayne Center, with an I MAX theater, good for children or the young at heart.

When in Cullman, I would sugest a trip on up to Huntsville, if you have transportation, to the Space and Rocket Center.

ANDREA, I forgot, there are a couple of nice quilt shops in TRUSSVILLE, a bit of a drive east of Birmingham, near the east/west freeway. If you are wanting to buy fabric to send home, there are also HOBBY LOBBY stores with some good prices. They actually have limited offerings at $2/yard on thier sale table! One would be on the way from Birmingham to Cullman, actually not far from Mt Olive, at the Gardendale Freeway interchange, which if I remember correctly is one Exit away.

MizTricia, thank you so much for dropping by and with gifts too! I am anxious to try apple butter. I have not heard of it before. Hopefully the crumbs can be cleared up soon, although I am usually a bit slow on the uptake. Wild Asaleas, wow, how wonderful. Western Australia is a must on your virtual world tour, there seem to be many of us from here that are Sudukoaholics! Bye.

MizTricia my mouth is watering! I recall having spiced apples as a youngster. The apples tasted better then, (that was in UK and they were called Bramleys) here in West Aus there are no real cooking type apples, we use Granny Smiths. Still nothing is ever the same as when 'we were young'!! Mind you we grow beautiful peaches here and apricots.

MizTricia thanks for your visit, yes we do grow Kiwi fruit here in Australia, with a name like that I should think they did originate from New Zealand. In UK we called them Chinese Gooseberries. I know many people who are alergic to them, their tongues and lips swell. Do Loquats grow in your area? If you have peaches and apricots do you have nectatines? Were you a student or teacher at the ag school? Bye

Hi Miz Tricia! Dropping by with a bottle of Niagara ice wine for you to share with friends for dessert. Actually it's a bribe; Rob from Utah mentioned the help you gave her with setting up her avatar and I was wondering if the tutorial was still open? Remember, I'm completely hopeless about computers ...
