Judy - If you can't get pre-mixed pumpkin pie spice, here is a recipe to make your own (I'll add this to the glossary of the cookbook the next time I update it): 1 tsp. ground nutmeg, 1 tsp. ground allspice, 2 tsp. ground ginger and 4 tsp. ground cinnamon.

Hi Judy
Thank you for the info about the mini knee replacement.
It is good to hear from someone who has had one of these done.
Yes I have a left knee that is a lot worse than the last arthroscopy which was done 3 years ago.
So having this one done on Monday and then the
surgeon will let me know if i can have the mini knee replacement done or not.
I just cannot walk any distance and I so miss my
morning walks. I used to go every second day at 5am.
It was great in the early morning down on the breakwall and around the ocean.
I used to take some fantastic pics of the sun coming up etc.
My right knee is going the same way but not too bad yet.
Thanks again.

Hi Judy, I am SOOOOO glad I am not alone!!!! I too am addicted to the 16x16 and yes, it does take up WAYYYY too much time. But to go back to the 'little ones' would be too much like a retreat...I guess the rest of my life will just have to suffer

G'day Judy! I'm slowly catching up on Sudoku after our long trip to Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, & Cambodia. Thanks for leaving me a birthday greeting on my page on Dec. 4. I can never forget that you & I share the same special day. Hope you had a good one this year. My 62nd birthday was one of my most exciting ever! It began when we watched the sun rise at Angkor Wat in Cambodia - unforgettable! I have posted only one picture of our trip on my page so far, but I will try to whittle down the thousands of pictures we took to just our favorites & post them on Flickr as soon as I can find time. Meanwhile, Rob & I wish you & your family a very Merry Christmas and

Very thoughtful comments today, Judy. I lost my beloved Aunt Ruth on Dec 16. Christmas was bittersweet since she so enjoyed Christmas. I wore her Santa hat around all day on Christmas in her honor.

Thanks for helping me understand the 4 seasons. Your note gives me the better idea about how the topography affects the climate. Mentioning the cloud and Mt. Macedon really made the mental picture for me. I live in an area with glacial hills, no mountains or high elevations, so I keep forgetting to think 3 dimensionally. When I look at maps of Australia, they're all flat, you know? What's your favorite species of tree for fall foliage?

Ah, Judy. You've given me another "ah-ha" moment. I went back to the wikipedia page with the autumn color photo
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyneton,_Victoria
and reread the caption that mentions the autumn color is in a botanical garden!
Thanks for teaching me stuff. Speaking of ash, around here it's quickly being destroyed much like the dutch elms were. The culprit in this case is the Emerald Ash Borer and there are all sorts of prohibitions on transporting wood and firewood, but since they don't know how to fight it, it's only a matter of time.

Hi, Judy. I love this international website for the ability to meet people like you and share life experiences.

On average we'll have about 16-20 really "unbearably hot" days of maybe 93 F and above. What makes them unbearable is the extreme humidity that goes with them. If it's that hot and not so humid it's not so bad. But when it's that humid it's impossible to sweat or get wet and be cooled by evaporation. Thankfully, around here those days are usually split into 2 or 3 runs of just a week or so through the summer. I've been in this house 21 years and have so far resisted buying an air conditioner and just visit relatives or go shopping where they have AC during those weeks.

We'll open windows and start running the attic fan to draw in outside air in the late afternoon or early evening when the temps inside equal the temps outside. Then we'll let the attic fan draw in air through the night and early morning. Between 8 and 10 a.m. we'll close the windows and draw the blinds and keep fans circulating the cooler indoor air until it's the same as outside and we open the windows again.
I used to live in Cincinnati, Ohio and they had whole weeks above 100 F and sometimes 2 weeks at a time that wouldn't drop below 84 F at night with high humidity. I remember being pregnant (22 years ago) in Cin'ti and sitting all day with a fan 18" from my face so I could breathe. I traveled mid-summer up to the Detroit, MI area to visit my parents and was relieved by the 10 degree (F)drop in temps. Everyone was panicking because temps were in the 90's for the 3rd or 4th day in a row and I was outside walking around in the midday rejoicing that I could actually breathe. People thought I was crazy and endangering myself and I was forced into AC. But the moral is -- humans are pretty adaptable.

Judy, I remember Ash Wednesday well too. We were living in the foothills of Adelaide at the time and we could see the smoke from there. Then over the next day or so to hear the reports from the rest of South Australia and Victoria was overwhelming.
I remember the name of Cockatoo as well. They suffered terribly and everyone is on high alert.
The name of this town will be remembered by many for a long time. Pray it never happens again.
Please try and remain cool! I know that is a ridiculous thing to say, but you know my intentions are sincere.

Judy, I'd so appreciate if you would come over and post something about JA's Northanger Abbey, Pride & Prejudice and Sense & Sensibility. I think you have a good way of describing what you're thinking. It doesn't have to be scholarly, just likes, dislikes or themes or favorites scenes or scenery. Whatever you want to talk about.

Judy, although I wasn't on the site yesterday as we were on high alert, you were in my thoughts when I heard of the fire in Bendigo. I was very saddened to hear of the hundred houses lost in your area.
I have only read now your post from yesterday asking after me and our area. We have been very lucky here, there were really no fires too close to us, but because of the high winds, we were shrouded in smoke for the whole day. The fire to the east of Gembrook is the Bunyip State Forest fire, and thankfully for us, the winds are in the opposite direction. I feel a little selfish saying that as it is threatening towns in the other direction.
Stay safe.

Judy, my apologies for missing my chance to wish YOU a happy birthday on our joint Dec. 4 anniversary. Don't know how often you read comments on Easy these days, but we had a scary couple of weeks with our youngest daughter's thyroid surgery & complications. She was better just in time for my birthday - that was my very best gift this year in addition to having all three of my daughters & both granddaughters with me to celebrate. I'll never take our family's good health for granted again!! Hope you had a good day on your birthday, too. I'm gonna try hard not to be late with my good wishes next year! And to make amends I'm sending my Christmas & New Year's greetings early! Hope you & all your family have a very Merry Christmas and

Hi Judy! Long time no see! I'm not around the Sudoku pages very much anymore, & maybe you're not either. But I have not forgotten you - we are forever bonded by our shared birthday. I am wondering if you are a wine drinker? There is a column in our local newspaper called "Wine of the Week". The one featured this week was one called Water Wheel Memsie. The name really intrigued me. I read on & this wine was described as "a sassy Australian red with a flamboyantly jammy nose." It blends four grapes: shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, malbec, & petit verdot & is named for the old homestead at Water Wheel Vineyards in the Bendigo region. Of course, I immediately thought of you. Hope you & your family are all well. Rob & I are fine & glad that our exceptionally cold winter, even here in FL, seems to coming to an end. Sending hugs & best wishes to you always. ♥ Kathy
