good picture, hard to get a picture of a humming bird that is still.

this photo again...

5:34 Should have been medium Maen
 |  |
10:04. Easy tough.
 |  |
11.10 and one guess
 |  |
Good Maen.
 |  |

Same repeat pictures!

Started out a bit difficult, but once you got rolling, it was quite simple.
 |  |
Maen - another straightforward puzzle. Steve, I think there are some variations on almost unique rectangles that could be abstracted from this one, or maybe a y-wing with extraneous numbers in the vertex.
 |  |
MAEN Nice setting for a bird feeder!

i like 'em easy-makes me feel smart

I'm with you, Chris.

19:30 a fast time for me. Nice to be able to solve a tough one without 'cheating' by guessing or extensive possibility marking. A hidden trio and a short fc involving 2s and 6s (forbidding
b8 from being a 2) did it for me.
 |  |
Guessing isn't cheating as long as you abstain from unchecking 'Allow incorrect moves' or hitting the 'check moves' button... it lacks the indepth analysis seen in the proofs posted here but it still follows the basic rules of logic for solving sudoku puzzles.

1 guess here today.
 |  |
Me too, Chris!
 |  |
A well authoured puzzle should only be solved by elimination. If, at close-to-the-end of the puzzle, Guessing is mandatory then it is NOT a good puzzle!
When I reach that stage, I usually quit the game rather than finish it by guessing!
 |  |
Please, somebody submit photos to 'tough' so we can not have repeats. It's a nice photo, but there are so many to see.
 |  |
No guessing; all logic this time
 |  |
My first time seeing this one, brilliant. I too hate to guess as it defeats the purpose of igniting a logical thought process in the brain. Discovering a logical elimination after straining for a while is an incredible high.

Wow! It was quick. How I did it???
 |  |

I am sure it is pure coincidence but Gath seems to go on holidays just as the Tough cycles back to the beginning of the picture file!
 |  |
An easy tough today, for sure; didn't have to guess once on this one!

To AP from Woburn, MA. Just moved here to WA last summer after living in MA for nearly 30 years! Lived right near you, in Lexington.

Sorry about using the 'ch'-word. My purist's preference is never to use possibility markers (unless, say, I doubt my ability to remember the
location of a hidden/blind group). That may be an extreme position and everyone should feel ok to solve sudokus with their chosen set of tools. With tough More...

20:28 Hi to all. Thanks for all the help Steve, my time here has definitely improved.
 |  |
I can't finish this one. Can anyone please submit their proof? Steve?

A proof for tough sudoku of 01 05 2007:

1) Start at 22 filled - the given puzzle. Unique Possibilities to 25 filled. (UP 25).
2a)Hidden pair 26 at h28 forbids h2=359,h8=59
2b) Hidden pair 28 at b28 forbids b28=379
2c) Hidden pair 15 at ac5 forbids h5=5,ac5=3479 UP 32
3a) More...

Again, the proof above was not posted until Jan 8.

I found this to be fairly simple.
