9:22 - Not a great time, but as long as it's under 10 minutes, I'm ok with it! Great picture!

Sandra, York Wall is the wall built around the English city of York to protect it from invaders. A nice photo.

maeN! 6:00 Who were the attackers? Romans, Vikings, French, Scots? I guess an approximate date of construction would help to settle that :-)

Jyrki, I am not student of British history but I would say - all of them. I wonder if any of our Brits could help, otherwise it looks like a visit to our friends at Google?

The original earth ramparts at York were pre-Roman and survived through the Viking occupation (city was called Jorvic at that time). The later walls are medieval but were started by the Normans in the 11th Century. If you visit the city the Jorvic Museum is a 'must see' as is York Minster - one of Europe's great cathedrals and the city walls are free to visit too.

I submitted a few photos some time ago, and have been watching for them ever since. THIS IS MY PHOTO! I'm so excited! We visited England in spring 2005.

I love York - and I was really chuffed to see my guess at the location was right! I've been to York twice now, in early Spring the first time when we walked all around the city whereever the walls would permit and daffodils were coming up everywhere on the grass mounds. The next time was October/November. It's a great time to visit England - not too crowded. The Jorvik Viking Centre is a must and the Minister ... and of course all those narrow laneways like The Shambles and Little Shambles. We also took a cruise on the Ouse and went to the railway museum.
