Here's today's daffynition:

Here's today's factoid:

I fried my phone this morning. It was in my briefcase, and my water bottle opened. Grrrrr. Any input on phones you like, phones to avoid?

Based on the clue in parentheses, find a four-letter word that can be inserted backwards into the blank to complete a longer word.

Example: di____ve (a defeat)
Answer: dissolve ('A defeat' gives you LOSS, which is placed backwards in the blank: di_SSOL_ve.)

By combining the most useful characteristics of Arabians, Turkumans and local stock, the Rajputs created an intelligent, fearless and hardy breed (Marwaris) with which to defeat endless invasions and hold onto power over the centuries.

No advice Sarah Beth. I use a dumb phone with a prepaid plan with Tracfone, unlimited text & talk, don't need data since I'm attached to a computer most of the day. I'm too cheap to get anything more than what I've got .
18/Oct/14 2:36 AM
That's not being cheap Silvergal, just resourceful. And Sarah I once dumped an old cell phone in a glass of iced tea. You used to be able to take take them apart and put them in a cold oven overnight or in a bed of rice, both attempts to dry out the components. Not sure if any of that works with the new phones.
18/Oct/14 2:52 AM
It's sure worth a try, Aimee.
18/Oct/14 3:08 AM
... though the ''cold oven'' idea probably doesn't do much unless you have one of those old fashioned ovens with a pilot light.
18/Oct/14 3:10 AM
Thanks Keith, obviously I have been a lot more careful with my phones now-a-days. When we went to the beach this year we had lifeproof cases, which turned out to be a good thing as we were sitting a little too close the beach when a lone little wave disrupted my husband.

I'm sitting here not able to run because I turned my ankle, yep, the bad one! OUCH! And we're planning to go to Santa Barbara where we'd do a LOT of walking! Now we don't know whether we'll go or not!
18/Oct/14 3:19 AM
I tried the rice thing once and when it didn't work I went with plan b. I took a blow dryer to it. I figured it was already broke so why not. It worked.

I'm also a tracfone person so can't give you any phone advice.
18/Oct/14 3:20 AM
I, too, use a simple prepaid Tracfone. I hate monthly contracts and don't want to pay for use of the phone if I don't use it. If I need to get on the internet, I use my computer. Not my phone.
18/Oct/14 3:37 AM
It all depends on how you want to use it, of course. Personally, I like being able to access e-mail, internet, etc. when I'm not at home. But if you don't want or need that, why pay for it?
What type of phone do you have now, Sarah Beth?
18/Oct/14 3:47 AM
So sorry, Shosho. What a pain....literally.
18/Oct/14 3:50 AM
Shosho - I hope you are able to get your walking in!
18/Oct/14 3:50 AM
Hello all, and nice to see Jamie! Quick visit I assume with your busy schedule......
18/Oct/14 5:27 AM
Joyce, yes a sort of quick visit, but I am really sitting at the desk watching the kids work today. I am recovering from surgery, so taking it easy. I do miss getting here often.
18/Oct/14 5:33 AM
I meant to come back and do Serena's puzzle yesterday and then forgot. Our local shopping centre has expanded and we went to investigate. Lots of new shops with Asian sized clothes. (ie too small for me)designed for the very young.
It has always been a big centre with an ice rink, 16 movie theatres, now has a bowling alley, two big department stores and much more.
18/Oct/14 5:45 AM
So pleased that you are able to go back to work Jamie. Nice that you can just supervise today.
Shosho, if you strap your ankle will you be able to walk?

I am minding my daughter's small dog. I have the choice of shutting in the kitchen at night and having it bark every time it wakes or letting it sleep on the end of the bed. The problem is it is now in my part of he bed and I will probably wake it if I move it. The dog is deaf so it sleeps through any noise.
18/Oct/14 5:53 AM
Now at the bottom so I can make sure we get to page 2
