I hope we get to see the Year of the Tiger parade, too!
Chinese New Year is supposed to begin on Valentine's Day this year!
(We missed the Year of the Ox parade, it seems.)

Nope, Plum! I'm a ... wait a minute... do I really want to tell...
QUESTION: Last year the Chinese New Year began on January 26, but my grandson was born on January 11th. Does that really make him born in the Year of the Rat???

Interesting tidbit of information: (Whilst looking for which year I am...) The origins of the Chinese New Year celebrations were born out of fear and myth. Legend spoke of the wild beast Nien (which also is the word for "year") that appeared at the end of each year, attacking and killing More...

The date of the Chinese New Year is determined by the second full moon after the winter solstice.

Pig float for the Year of the Rat ????? Not very appealing. Couldn't they have dreamed up better animals?

I would have loved the Year of the Ox parade myself.
In case anyone wonders what an Ox is...... it's a steer (of any cattle breed) over 4 years old. Mostly used for draught animals.

That IS a cute sow and piglets, tho'.

Next year (commencing 14th February) is the year of the Tiger, but it is not my year (Dragon), so I don't have to 'dress up' for the occasion !

I don't believe the stars and planets have the least little effect on my personality or destiny and I refuse to read horoscopes, but as harmless calendar symbols (along with birthstones), I get a double dose of bull - I'm a Taurus born in the year of the Ox.

That DOES explain a lot, tho', Plum.

Do Chinese rats use lipstick?
13/Jan/10 1:04 AM

Good evening all. I've just spent a delightful evening with Rolanda & Peter (from Perth) having a barbeque at their caravan near the beach. The weather was lovely but turned a bit chilly as the sun went down.

Do ANY rats use lipstick?

That HAS to be the weirdest post on 22 that I've seen.

Well, I just found out what I am, Plum... I'm not an Ox. At least I'm not a Snake! I'd rather be a Rabbit, a Dragon or a Tiger... Well, maybe not a Tiger... A bit too much of that name this year, it seemed!

Yes, Rats do.

Oh, and I want to let everyone know that Starr's hand is healing extraordinarily well. It had stopped bleeding and oozing by the next morning. The "divot" has shrunken in size and filled in quite nicely and it no longer looks raw or nasty. I don't know if I have ever seen a wound that More...

With all of this Chinese New Year talk may I recomend a Chinese Novel I just started reading, Beijing Coma.

Heidi; from the photo, Chinese pigs obviously use lipstick

Heidi - a wonderful question that should be in the Sudokuland "22 Hall of Fame."
Rats with lipstick? Femme fatale "rats," perhaps? Or snotty teenage girls?
13/Jan/10 1:13 AM

Trying to imagine what a rat with lipstick would look like...
I wonder if they'd look like a cat with lipstick?
I used to put lipstick on my cats! Haven't done that in years, though. "Here kitty, kitty..."
Wait a minute... I have male cats!

Very glad to hear that Starr is healing nicely. Plum.

Hmm, don't think I'll have time - again - to go back and reread the last coupla days' posts. I'm sure I've been missing riddles and puzzles. Oh, well. At least I've been getting lessons done and I've upholstered a headboard for my bedroom -with fabric purchased for said room 12-15 years ago. Now to do the duvet cover and valances. And I'm behind two weeks in my writing. Toodles.

Good Maen friends!
Lee - thanks for the recomendation...a mystery?
Plum - you are one talented gal...I'm very impressed with your accomplishment. Happy to hear Starr is doing better, too.

Using my snowcat avatar in hopes of coaxing the rain that is here into snow...not much chance of it...I think this storm is so warm that it is raining at 6000 feet elevation up the road from me. BUMMER!

I dialed a number and got the following recording:
"I am not available right now, but
Thank you for caring enough to call.
I am making some changes in my life.
Please leave a message after the
beep. If I do not return your call,
You are one of the changes."
