Shiela - have a grand time with your teenaged grandies! What is in the plans? or do you now suggest, but they arrive with requests as well?

Just came back from advance voting in next Saturday's provincial elections. We ended up joining masses of people wishing to avoid next Saturday's masses of people, but the whole process ran like a fine Swiss watch. We were met at the door and ushered right in to the appropriate registration desk, shared what I hope was a joke with our poll worker neighbour ('Is that your morgue photo?'), marked an X in our candidate's box and fed my ballot into the reader. Total elapsed time: 4 minutes, in and out. That, the lovely walk to our community centre and the odd glow one always gets from such a tiny but important contribution to our governance made it a fine way to spend a bit of our Saturday morning.

Tom, we don't actually live on a lake, although we are about 20 minutes from Lake Ontario, so we can watch the weather approach across the lake from our north-facing windows. That in itself is often quite fascinating! Our summer place is an hour & half southwest from where we live, That is called Java Lake Colony; a location in a small community of originally summer homes (but over the years many folks have decided to expand into year-round spots. It is located in the foothills of the Allegheny mountains, on a hill facing east, overlooking a small spring-fed lake where no boats with motors are allowed! Since we are on a hill. facing east, this time of year the sun leaves our area shortly after 3:00 in the afternoon (even earlier as the season moves further into winter!) Which is why we are not eager to be in residence once the temperature at night is hovering near freezing. Several years ago, when we were more 'spry' we always stayed until Halloween - then it began to be common to have snow there by Halloween - now we're not that eager to keep the water running in such unpredictable nighttime temps! The n2 lakes a totally different - Going to Lake Ontario is quite similar to going to the ocean: pack your towel & mat, sand pails & under water gear, sunscreen, lunch, snacks, drinks, and spend the day - might even grill dinner on the beach.
At our summer place there is a small beach, a marked off safe swimming area with floats anchored beyond the swimming area, no lifeguard, small personal sailboats, canoes, and kayaks, catch & release fishing with licenses required, fireworks displays, treasure hunts, sports days swimming races, hotdog & corn roasts - a very active social schedule for kids & adults!

I'll bet you never expected such a total in-depth descriptive article of such great length - we do enjoy the differences these 2 places provide!
I never intended to babble at such length - guess I got carried away!

1:24. Good morning everyone.

It was a very similar story here yesterday Tom - I voted early ahead of next week's election and it went very smoothly. When I got there the poll worker I went to happened to be a Canadian lady I worked with for some time well over a decade ago! Also around 4 minutes from go to whoa.

Your summer place sounds idyllic, Joyce, and your description is wonderful (to read it is almost, almost(!) as good as being there's to see it in person). What a treasure to have in the family. I'll bet the kids love it!

To be accurate, Tom, we'd need to speak in past tense - our 'kids' are long-ago grown-ups; with carrres but yes, we all loved visiting my parents at the cottage; it was many years later before we inherited that idyllic spot!
