I am sharing this with you today
because it ended with a double dare to pass it on.
To remember what a double dare is, read on.
And remember that the perfect age is somewhere between
old enough to know better and too young to care.

How many of these do you remember?

Think the above are the Australian version of a post I've seen from our US friends. And I suspect this one has been "doctored" from a US version because of the "Mom" in it. But never mind, let's have fun today seeing how much we do remember!

30/Aug/07 2:05 AM

Music today is Don MacLean performing "American Pie." An interesting video with this reflecting the interpretation of the song by whomever posted it. This also fits in with CP's remember when theme. Enjoy!
30/Aug/07 2:08 AM
In keeping with CP's suggested theme for today, for us oldsters on the site, do you remember:
- listening to the morning march on the radio so you knew it was time to leave for school?
- when cameras folded up?
- those toasters that turned over the toast when you opened the doors?

CG: It is interesting that the plane crash in 1959 took the lives of a white, black & hispanic. More has been made of Buddy Holly, than the other two. I knew Richard Vallenzuela from the "Drifters" (car club). JP Richardson (the Big Bopper) with Chantilly Lace was a favorite. More...

Yesterday our car got stuck -
behind a farmer’s filthy truck.
It was loaded full of bleating sheep;
packed in tight and several deep;
an eco-mobile-catastrophe -
of noisy fleece and running pee.
Wisely our driver made no mistake;
did not count sheep; and stayed awake.
But drawn by their hypnotic pull,
I dozed off counting ‘balls of wool’.
30/Aug/07 3:32 AM
A day without Raray and sheep is like day without sunshine!
CP and CG, I remember pretty much all of them I'm thinking the "Mechano Sets" would be the Aussie equivalent of the U.S. "Erector Sets", but what are "sandshoes"?
30/Aug/07 3:45 AM
that's Rayray!
30/Aug/07 3:46 AM
Eve, that is probably because Buddy Holly was the 'established' star when the plane crash occured. Both Richardson and Richie Valens (Vallenzuela) were just 'emerging stars' but Holly was already an acclaimed national (international?) star.

As I sit on my porch taking a break from barking at everyone around, I look at the lists provided by CP and CG, and can remember all of them.

Mamacita - They say that Love makes the world go around. I believe Music makes the world go around. Maybe because we have a love for music and have had for geneations throughout the millinias. Eve -- not that it matters -- but the crash that killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper, did not kill a white, a black, and a hispanic. Buddy holly and JP Richardson were both white...
But it was definitely "the day the music died". There was a line in "American More...
