Good morning
Good night

Depending on your part of the world.

Our thoughts and prayers go to those devastated by the Queensland floods.

Good morning all. It's going to another day of rain. I should go to the store, but there is always instant coffee, so maybe I won't.

1:46. I've seen this photo before, but not on this site - it did the email rounds at work a couple of years ago.
31/Dec/10 12:04 AM
Since it's the 31st in places...
Have you made your New Year's resolutions yet?
31/Dec/10 12:05 AM
It was the first really warm day of summer - 32 degrees (heading for 37 on Saturday) and, apart from walking the dogs in the morning, was a pretty uneventful and lazy day.
31/Dec/10 12:06 AM
Our driveway is a sheet of ice right now.
Guess I'll wait for it to warm up a bit before venturing out.
31/Dec/10 12:06 AM
Yes chris I have seen it before as well. Sunny day in our part of the world today so hope it lasts.
31/Dec/10 12:10 AM
Shiela - yes just a light covering - easily distubed. It has been between 29° & 31° for the past 24 hours - even had some sunshine yesterday in between light snow showers.
31/Dec/10 12:10 AM
Eve,That actually sounds quite nice.
31/Dec/10 12:13 AM
and to all. My friend came to visit yesterday and we made Sauerkraut Balls. It has become a yearly tradition for the two of us. Next year I will go to her house to make the treats.

We are having flooding around here (San Francisco Bay area) as well. Two people dead from a fallowing tree, and than another from a tree, Lots of cars hit. So much rain we can't trust our tree at all. We love trees and everyone has several near by.
31/Dec/10 12:15 AM
fallowing = falling
31/Dec/10 12:17 AM
Sauerkraut balls, GmaJackie? That's a new one to me! Will have to look up that recipe!

For our traditional meal for New Years we will have a Pork Roast and sauerkraut. Because we now live in the South we now add to that tradition. I will cook Black Eyes Peas and Turnip Greens as well. The Sauerkraut Balls are also a family tradition. I make them One Time a year.
31/Dec/10 12:19 AM
I was wondering what other people have for a traditional meal at New Years. Shiela, the Sauerkraut balls are wonderful good, but messy.
31/Dec/10 12:23 AM
Too hot for that here so salads and BBQ's are the go.
31/Dec/10 12:23 AM
Crystal and I went to an English Pub here Monday. Hat German potato salad and bangers and mash. First really good pub grub since Ed and I went to Disney World and ate in England. Wish they had scotch eggs, because I have an awful time trying to get the meat mix to stick.

What traditions do others have? When I was a child my grandmother would alwalys buy pillow tubing and on New Years Day we (even Daddy) had to sew a pillow case. She said that was to have someplace to keep our money. Hope springs eternal in the human breast.
31/Dec/10 12:26 AM
Some of the Southern traditions (black-eyed peas)are filtering up here in the North, GmaJackie, but traditions here are a bit more relaxed, I guess. Having wild rice is one.
31/Dec/10 12:27 AM
I will put the Sauerkrault Balls recipe on the recipe page.
31/Dec/10 12:29 AM
I think the real focus up here in the North is on New Year's Eve!
31/Dec/10 12:29 AM
GmaJackie! I can't wait to see it!
31/Dec/10 12:30 AM
Yes mostly focused on NYE here as well.

GH, that is what summer is all about.. BBQ and fresh fruit and vegetables. My taste buds are set to have fresh strawberries when I get to Australia. 12 more days and I will be there. Lord willing and the weather holds. ("creeks don't rise".. but in Au. they are already risen.)
31/Dec/10 12:33 AM
Which means it will be a big one tomorrow so time to call it night.
31/Dec/10 12:34 AM
Yes GmaJackie, Cold BBQ chicken,Pork fruit and salads Strawberries and cream, Mango's etc etc. You are in for a treat.
31/Dec/10 12:37 AM
Dont't forget the meat pie and mushy peas.
31/Dec/10 12:38 AM
Yum! I'll be right down!
You must be so excited, GmaJackie!
31/Dec/10 12:41 AM

Tradition New Years Day - Watch the Rose Parade (since I was a child). My husband's family it was football with pork roast and sauerkraut.

Once involved with decorating floats - the week between Christmas & New Years was spent under the freeway overpast & New Years eve - going with the float to Orange Grove for final judging.
