WWII Memorial, Washington, DC

The USA wanted the World to know in 1945, in General George Marshall's words:
"We are determined that before the sun sets on this terrible struggle our flag will be recognized throughout the world as a symbol of freedom on the one hand and of overwhelming force on the other."
In my eyes, no better statement exists about how we see ourselves, and all our enemies - and our friends - need bear it in mind.
