Would be nice to be able to add a list of excluded.
Then if someone often upsets you, just turn them off.

Would that exclude that upsetting poster from everyone's screen or just yours? Something you might find upsetting, I could as easily find hilarious or worthy of passing on to the guys at morning coffee. This is an idea worth exploring, but with caution. It is an easy first step towards subjective censorship and smacks of PC thought policing as in 'I'd better not express myself honestly for fear of upsetting someone', and years later we wonder what ever happened to creative thinking.

An afterthought: Some of the most witty repartee has come from a posting by an alias using a germane nom de guerre.

jeb, just your own, not anybody else. The same as if you turn off the jokes, this only applies to yourself.
I suggested the "not logged in" as this is probably simpler (to implement) than the second suggestion (my preference), and there is no way to tell these posters you don't like what they say without being very public about your objection.

I don't want to read what I don't want to read, but you still can, so no censorship. I agree subjective censorship is not on.

And what is so wrong with a well voiced public objection? The occasional "cheap shot' poster can easily be shouted down into submission by a few well placed 'cheap shots'. That is one of the characteristics that gave this site its pungent personality that so many who are no longer here enjoyed. "Where are the Snowdens of Yesteryear?"

I totally agree with you jeb. I have never turned off any posts, just at times it maybe nice to turn off posts from 'x' because I am having a bad day and feel irritated by them.

Petulance and/or peevishness are two states of which it would be strongly recommendend not to read posts of any kind. The day might be better spent fishing, overhauling a limited slip differential or helping the old widow lady next door clean out her attic.

How about a "Birthday or other occasion greeting" button. It would be easier to see all at once who has sent greetings. Would make it easier to thank everybody.
