Hello Sacky - a lot of the Chinese, especially, spoke very good English, and in the other countries we visited they could make themselves understood. Not always of course, especially the carriage attendants on the trains we travelled on.

That is poor PR Anne, I guess their Tourist Dept has not been very active - one would have thought that all personnel on trains would have to be able to speak and understand English.
