Another of my husband's photos. I remember this trip very well. We were there for a month in 1984. There had just been several murders near Chitna (McCarthy, actually, where we were headed), and we found out from the locals that it was a computer programmer from Palo Alto, CA. We never told them we were computer programmers from the Bay Area! Chitna is off the beaten path and you won't get there from a cruise ship or a fishing fly-in. In fact, at the time, the only way to get to McCarthy was with a hand-pulled tram. We drove all over the state and did several backpacks in a variety of areas. I wish I had more photos to post from this trip, but this was before digital!
