Mottled Ducks (Anas fulvigula) in Old Jupiter Creek

Mottled Ducks look very much like Mallards, but have key differences. The bright yellow beak and dark stripe across the eye is characteristic of the Mottled Duck. Also, Mottled Ducks are one of few ducks to have no sexual dimorphism, unlike Mallards, where the drake gets a bright green head. Note these two - a breeding pair that nested nearby - look essentially the same. March 9, 2009

It's interesting that they both look the same. I am not familiar with Mottled Ducks and assumed they were both females. Thanks for the information.
