As a graduate of a school once called "Missouri School of Mines" (now Missouri U of Science & Technology) I am awed by the size of this open pit mine. It must be among the worlds largest.

This is the largest open pit in Australia. Seems to be among the biggest in the world, though I'm not sure where it rates.
