Baby turtles on Wala

Once a favourite food, turtle numbers have dwindled so much that eating them is now forbidden. Islanders on Wala now collect the eggs and carefully protect the babies to ensure future numbers - hoping that turtle will soon be back on the menu!

As a sea turtle volunteer worker, I am pleased to see you know about these amazing animals. At Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Florida USA, we rehabilitate injured Loggerhead, Green, Kemps Ridley, and Hawksbill Sea Turtle back to health, after injured animals are brought to us by wildlife authorities. I have seen them lay eggs at midnight, and it is primordial! There are photos of me releasing a sea turtle in my gallery.
